Thanx.  There's no guides brazed on the downtube.  None necessary.  The cable just follows the downtube before going through the threaded barrel adjuster on the lower end of the seatpost tube, just above the bottom bracket.  It orignally came w/ an Odyssey Pitbull rear brake, mounted just aft of the bottom bracket shell, so it came stock w/ the adjuster.  I just replaced it w/ a larger diameter adjuster from a Dia-Compe brake lever.

I'll get a pic up later.

Dunno what month it was built.  I only bought it in Nov.'92.  Serial #: FS 00921428.  I wish I still had the wheels.  They got banged up pretty bad BITD & ended up lost in the sea of old parts rendered useless @ the time.

Nope - no guides @ all... not even a zip tie.

That's what I figured.  That's kinda weird but cool non the less if it stays put ok.  the reason I ask is because I sis this to my frame and put one on.  Just curious.  Thank again for your help.

Btw, looks like the chain rubs on your 990's bolt..you could use low profile upper bolts from a newer AD990.

Wow, good eye.  I think your right on that one.  Seems the chain looks raised a tad bit over that mounting bolt huh?  I never noticed how high those bolts were until you mentioned that.

About the chain:
Either your scenario or you can just use from a newer Diacompe 990 the top locks (yours are the old 990 locks)...they are low profile and they won't rub.
Diatech 996 Fiesta has even lower ones and also made out of aluminum

Philly, huh?  We used to take the R5 outta' Doylestown BITD when we were in junior high ~22 years ago.  Get off @ Market East & ride Philly all day: South Street (RIP Zipperhead), Penn's Landing, Love Park, etc.  The conductor used to let our bikes ride for free.

I actually live right off of South Street down by Penns Landing. Been here for years. And I went to college in center city - just blocks from Love Park etc.  Who Knows - maybe we crossed paths. I had a bunch of friends in Doylestown too.. I used to frequen Siren Records all the time.  Cool little town.
