Nice bike.  Where exactly is the down tube cable guide placed on this bike?  Do you have a close up you can post?  :)

Thanx.  There's no guides brazed on the downtube.  None necessary.  The cable just follows the downtube before going through the threaded barrel adjuster on the lower end of the seatpost tube, just above the bottom bracket.  It orignally came w/ an Odyssey Pitbull rear brake, mounted just aft of the bottom bracket shell, so it came stock w/ the adjuster.  I just replaced it w/ a larger diameter adjuster from a Dia-Compe brake lever.

I'll get a pic up later.

Dunno what month it was built.  I only bought it in Nov.'92.  Serial #: FS 00921428.  I wish I still had the wheels.  They got banged up pretty bad BITD & ended up lost in the sea of old parts rendered useless @ the time. :/

Wish I still had 'em.  See signature. ;)

BTW, as per the serial #, it was the 1428th frame built in October of 1992. :D

AWESOME!!!!!!

That Pit-bull / 990 set up is Great!
Such a good idea. We always used to get very resourceful with our brake set-ups.

I love seeing innovation like that.
Great bike!

Hi there, chromey.  Thanx for the welcome.

Philly, huh?  We used to take the R5 outta' Doylestown BITD when we were in junior high ~22 years ago.  Get off @ Market East & ride Philly all day: South Street (RIP Zipperhead), Penn's Landing, Love Park, etc.  The conductor used to let our bikes ride for free. :)

Good ole' days, for sure.

Re: 1992 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team

Hey Chad, thanks for the pics but I still can't see the down tube cable guide placement.  I think it's further up the down tube?

Nope - no guides @ all... not even a zip tie.

That's what I figured.  That's kinda weird but cool non the less if it stays put ok.  the reason I ask is because I sis this to my frame and put one on.  Just curious.  Thank again for your help.

Re: 1992 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team

Yeah a cool brake setup :)
What's the performance of the rear brake?

Btw, looks like the chain rubs on your 990's bolt..you could use low profile upper bolts from a newer AD990.

Wow, good eye.  I think your right on that one.  Seems the chain looks raised a tad bit over that mounting bolt huh?  I never noticed how high those bolts were until you mentioned that.  :)

Re: 1992 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team

Yup - in the pic, the chain in dragging.  If you notice, the chain is very very loose.  It stretched & the driveside adjuster bottomed out on the most rearward surface of the peg, so for the sake of getting a few pix up ASAP, I left the chain loose.  When it's tight, there's ~1/2" clearance & even when coming down hard, it doesn't hit.  Just need to take a link or two out of the chain & all will be well & good.

Good eye, though. ;)

Thanks, i've always been a fan of the detail. :P

About the chain:
Either your scenario or you can just use from a newer Diacompe 990 the top locks (yours are the old 990 locks)...they are low profile and they won't rub.
Diatech 996 Fiesta has even lower ones and also made out of aluminum ;)

Again, nice bike!

Hell yeah 215!

I actually live right off of South Street down by Penns Landing. Been here for years. And I went to college in center city - just blocks from Love Park etc.  Who Knows - maybe we crossed paths. I had a bunch of friends in Doylestown too.. I used to frequen Siren Records all the time.  Cool little town.

:)

Cool rider; I like the two peregrine clamps--like Bill Nuemann and others used to run--that's like 50 dollars worth of seat clampage you got there!

Re: 1992 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team

man,I would never take those decals off, that's what sets this bike apart, and gives it true vintage feel,as we all know NO ONE rode with stock decals in the 90's.the 990 set up is hot,I tried it once, with a pitbull base, and couldnt make it work for nothing,Ive always sucked at mechanics, lol.funny, the 93 frame has a small brazed on guide on the s bend, one of the few differences between 92-93.

Re: 1992 GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team

I logged in today and your bike was on the front page...it's awesome!  I agree with Polanco, we have plenty of restored, original, NOS, etc....bikes in the museum.
But YOUR bike from back in the day, all stickered up (wish i still had my original, bought new in '85 Pro World Tour that was all stickered up)...nothing but memories bro'...even if all you can do is pedal it around the block because of knee surgeries, it's still your ORIGINAL bike...i'd keep it stickered up like it has always been!!!   Just my two cents;)

Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world...
