Re: GT Serial Number Info
Any info about which factories/countries that manufactured GTs built chromo frames? Performers in particular. I'm a bit hazy on when they stopped building 100% chromo frames and at what factories, and when! I know it's quite a big question to ask and might be better in a thread of its own, but if there's a quick(ish) answer, I'd like to hear it.. sort of like a brief history of what material was used to build early GTs.
Thanks,
James
Good work on the serial numbers!

US factory's use nothing but full chromoly. The Japanese factory's use nothing but full chromoly as well.
Taiwanese factorys and most of the others use high ten steel and with some models like the performer are made with chromoly down tubes and high ten for the rest.
Can you ever really have enough GT's?

Re: GT Serial Number Info
Thanks for that info, it's kind of what I was expecting but I thought maybe during the early years the Taiwan bikes used chromoly aswell.

Re: GT Serial Number Info
How would you date the 84-97 forks...?? Im pretty sure I can identify an over sea's fork or the low end fork but what about the 84-86 USA forks.. Did they looks the same, any stamps, solid caps or different welds on drop outs. I guess the early forks had no cable guide.....
i also have a ebay pic of an 89 aggressor with the "A" stamp instead of the FS

the available frames were XL and XL+, this is the regular XL frame that came on the basic non team Speed Series model.

clip from cheat sheet
G5I2981 G for the production line. 5 for the year 1985. I for the 9th month September.
Cant tell the mid 80s models apart they all came with Pro f/f&b's. I cant tell you what it used to be, build it as whatever you like or have the stickers for.
