Wait. What year? All my roomies were speedsakters and we frequented the maid. 97-01ish

Haha. Update.

My company just hired me back at my old rate plus 10%. Turns out they need me.

So essentially, they paid me to take the summer off and re-hired me with a 10% raise. lol

....aaaaand I lost it again! lol

I work for Elite Assemblers. We assemble retail products for Walmart stores. Bikes, grills, and furniture mostly and in that order. Bikes are an all year thing. Grills pop around holidays. Furniture is usual only when they get new displays.

Seems like our locals at Walmart build the bikes and they are just junk. Backwards forks, loose nuts and bolts, etc.

I have an uncle in Oklahoma that works at a walmart and he's super proud of how they don't outsource for any of that work. Meanwhile in California there are several companies doing that job. Most of them will hire anyone but I worked in shops for over a decade and continue to maintain my passion for bikes so no one is getting any backwards forks on my builds lol. Frankly I see that at Target more than I do walmart. There are more than a few models that come with incompatible parts and there's plenty of guys that can't even explain why those brakes will always suck. I'd go back to working in a shop but I have no interest in new product and frankly I make more doing this.

I tried this. For National Assembler. Couldn’t pay the bills.

It's not for everyone. We get plenty of people that come through and quit once they realize you actually have to produce if you wanna get paid.

Not really afraid to work, just spent too much time with the bikes so some one could actually enjoy their POS.

Re: SO WHATS YOUR JOB????

i am a independent contractor. i been off for almost a year(got covid actually twice )  i was doing a contract for Puget sound energy as a meter tec. basically they were upgrading the meters on the side of your home to new wifi digital meter instead of the old glass dial style one. basically pulling the old meter checking the voltage replacing meters isnt as easy as you think. you had a quota to hit weekly so if you didn't hit your quota one week you got a write up. if you did it again it could be 6 months down the line second wasnt a write up it was ur position you lost your job. i was paid very very well let just say it was worth driving 2 hours south to work and then 4 sometimes 5 hours to get home gotta love the Bellevue traffic ohh did i mention i worked 6 days a week and 10-12 hrs days so yea i was tired & pooped out. it basically destroyed me as a person any social life i might have had and im lucky the MC disbanded because of internal rats other wise i would have probley got my eye dotted a few times from the nomad or the Sargent at arms (who happens to still be one of my best friends) but unenjoyment and covid has paid me well just enjoying sleeping in and working on bikes

Re: SO WHATS YOUR JOB????

Operating room nurse. Work at a couple places, one does only total joint replacement (my main job) and the other is a surgery center doing all outpatient procedures. I did my time in a hospital and took my share of trauma call and won’t ever go back to that. Now, no ‘on call’ , no evenings/nights,  no weekends, and a 3 day weekend every week.
