It's a special size, 21.6mm. People say 13/16 but that would be only 20.6mm. Lots of guys use one of those with a shim.

More info: The inner diameter of the seat tube is about 22.05mm. The seat tube is deformed at the seat stay joints due to heat from brazing. I rounded one back out using a stem quill (tightening the wedge) and installed a 22.0mm post. That's a rare size, but still easier to find in chrome than 21.6mm would be.

Your best option would be to get a 22.2mm fluted aluminum post and turn it down to fit. If it's anodized, that produced nice silver stripes. But if you do that, I recommend using a stem to smooth the inside of the seat tube out, because a fluted post would go wedged-loose-wedged-loose when you tried to turn it in a deformed seat tube.

Adding a shim to a 13/16" post is just easier. And if you don't add the shim, you'll overtighten the clamp slot.

Well, the Cru Jones fan resurrected it, but knowing that people would see it when it showed up at the top, I followed up with the more-correct answers.
