Re: Hitch mount bike racks

those 1 ups are nice. I personally use the Thule T2 system and have found it to work as a permanent mount on my Tacoma.  https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/276089/1e8cc34f-7476-476e-922d-e08446fb0d8e6032bd7441.jpeg

I had been using a Saris for years. (For sale now)https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/23382/20191010_22341560357827b3.jpg

But it didn't work with my Cannondale  Jekyll.
So now I  use a Yakima.

Re: Hitch mount bike racks

I have used a Hollywood for years, Great racks, Simple no ratchets or a bunch of moving parts to go bad like the Saris, My buddies all had problems with them, Have made damn near 100 5 hours trips to Snoeshoe with 40lb Downhill bikes and never a problem and they are under $300. Years ago I had Thule Roof rack and it sucked, Had about a grand in it by the time you get all the adapters for it, They are ok if you have a 18lb road bike but I would never put my 45lb E-Bike on one.

Been popping wheelies since I was 5 years old, did it without a gimmick bike then and don't need one to do it now.
Looking for Reynolds Racing decals.

Re: Hitch mount bike racks

the Swagman does look nice as well, gunna stick with the 1up as it's American made! Good to see some Canadian options as well!

I'm digging the ones that hold the bike down by the tires and don't have contact with the bike.

Just ordered a lock set for the 1up.. hitch, second rack and 2 bike tire locks.. looks like they key them the same, nice!

4-6 week wait for rack and locks.. Pics when it gets here and installed!

I forgot to circle back to this thread.
I ended up buying a Kuat Transfer 2.  I bought the optional locks.
It fits all of our daily drivers; Ford Edge, Mazda Miata, Fiat 500e - although it looks crazy on the little cars.

The wheel clamps don't contact the frames, and the entire rack folds up or down for hatch access on the suv.  Within a month of ownership, someone in a parking lot backed into it when it was folded up, and damaged one of the wheel trays (and the Ford's bumper).  Now that tray can only fit my flatland bike and my kids bike - 26" can't fit it anymore because it's no longer adjustable.
It has an anti-rattle bolt to easily install, and the adapter for the small cars is screwed to the rack- this also makes it easy to install.  Bikes are mounted super-fast with a posi-lock strap on the back tires and the ratchet arm for the front wheel.

It's sub $400, and I use the hell out of it.  I feel like I made my $$ back in the first year of use.

Re: Hitch mount bike racks

Just got a Stealth hitch installed on my new ride.

Pretty slick, but install required removal and replacement of bumper support and had to cut the plastic bit underneath the bumper for access to the hitch and lock.

Re: Hitch mount bike racks

Yeah, I love my 1up as well. Most ppl won’t sink the kinda money it takes to get one though. I think the single is still $450 or something like that. I just went ahead & got the 2 bike one.
