Re: Mags

Give them a basic cleaning with simple green. Then buy some volume 40 hair peroxide and brush it on thick and let sit in the hot sun for 4 hours. Rinse then flip and do other side.
let us know how it goes!

Re: Mags

Helps to wrap the wheels in plastic to keep the peroxide from drying out too fast which renders it useless.

That’s a great technique too but his are fairly clean, and are yellowed from age and that usually wont get rid of yellowing, they will just be super clean but still yellowed.

True, it does`nt work on all mags, thats one of the methods I use on white ones, one that has always worked was a large bin filled with bleach and let them soak over night, but I dont think it would work out well for the logos, they might fade out? I glass bead a lot of skyways that are discolored, but they are usually the red, black or blue ones, I havent tried glass beading a white set yet.

Re: Mags

The soft-scrub method I also use on white seats, I avoid the logo area though, probably will take them off?

Re: Mags

Glass bead wont work on yellowed white mags either.
The resins age turning the white to that dirty yellowed look. That’s when the peroxide method is the best for yellowed white mags. Some guys have ever used liquid peroxide in a large container and let them soak in the hot sun.

Re: Mags

I picked up a set locally and they were really dirty. I scrubbed them with soft scrub and scotchbrite pads and scrapped the brake rub off with a razor blade. Then Salon 40 wrapped in plastic and the results were stunning. New axles also.

Don’t have the before pictures sorry. But they looked something like this.

New bearings depends on the condition of the balls and if they have any flat spots but they should clean up with some degreaser and shine back like new. Add some new grease and put them back in then set the cone nut pressure so the mags spin without any side play.

New axles from Australia.
