Re: Finally!! A Powerlite Thread!! I've Been Waiting For One.

I've had this 1981 standard Powerlite for a while, this is the second time I refinished it, it used to be yellow. Rebuilt it for the Covid buildoff, made a few more tweaks after that. It's ready for pit duty now. smile

My p51 is starting to come together. A little bit of a budget build, but still a very nice bike.

Ginger was feeling some kind of way after I shunned her old ass for yesterday’s XTC.  I just wasn’t looking to deal with old bike problems on a 30 mile ride.  I had to make up to her somehow...

I took her out for a little spin this evening, and she really is.  The only legit issue is fit of the seat on the fluted seatpost.  I've tried using a shim, but there's still some wobble.  I plan on replacing the post with a regular one.  Then, she just may be my choice for XTCXIV in August!

You might have guts for a 22.2 and that seat post is 9/16ths or whatever?

I don't think so, but I'll check.  I have the same problem with the exact same post on the '85 Pro XL.  Thanks.

You could try grinding down the inside of the guts that prevent it from going smaller diameter. That might work.

I swapped out the fluted post with a solid post, and put some miles in during today's ride in Milwaukee.  Problem solved.

Re: Finally!! A Powerlite Thread!! I've Been Waiting For One.

Just finished this one up. Mark Darcy gave me this plate years ago, it is one of his original plates. I found it in a stack of stuff in my office & had to build it! 1979 Powerlite built with mostly original finishes, I added the downtube decals. Great original paint on the frame & fork. Powerbend handlebars mounted to a 6 bolt MCS stem, vinyl pads, Shimano Tourney brake, lever & cable guides, Koolstop brake pads, fluted alloy seat post, Suntour seat clamp, Grand Prix saddle, Takagi Tourney cranks, KKT rat traps, Black low/high flange Sunshine hubs, Araya 7Cs, Suntour Maeda freewheel & Cheng Shin C-183 fat skinny tires. Enjoy! I will change the grips and seat clamp when I find something more to my liking.

Recently acquired this frame, gusseted 19.5 top tube what year is this? Looks like a frame Tommy Brackens rode for Powerlite..
