Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...

Hey guys. I just finished rebuilding this '82 California Special from the frame up.  First build.  Original frame, forks / headset and seat post + pro neck stem with the rest of the parts obtained new / repro from porkchop and planet bmx.

Need some help trouble shooting a few issues:

1. the pedals or cranks / bottom bracket creak whenever I put pressure on either pedal.  Any ideas how to remedy?

2. the seat post  turns right/left no matter how tight I tighten the 1" tuf neck style seat clamp I got from  pork chop

https://porkchopbmx.com/tuf-neck-style- … -1-silver/

Thanks in advance!

Got this far with building my 82 Minigoose. Not the final look but will be built like this for now. Big changes later.

Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...

Just got done tearing down an ‘87 Decade and aside from a lot cleaning it’s mostly surface rust and light nicks to be repaired but there was this one piece when I disassembled the forks that looks like it came out of a pirate ship. The only piece on the whole build showing this kind of corrosion. Should I be concerned about this or just clean it up best I can?

Re: Mongoose Builds! Mongoose Questions! Post them here...

Hi,  I read a few of your post and had a question. Do you know of anyone that has straightened a motomag wheel? I have several motomags in my collection restored with period correct parts. I am currently building another and bought a set of motomags from a person on e-bay and when I received them I was not very happy to find that the rear one is bent about 1/3 of the wheel circumference and about 3/8 of on inch which was not disclosed in the ad and was told they were straight. I was just wondering if anyone has had any success in straightening motomags I have an idea but was looking for other input before I try myself. Any info would be much appreciated.

Nothing fancy, but still a fun project. Picked up a late ‘89 Mongoose Expert frame with the wishbone rear end. At least 7 paint color changes, mine will be the first to take it back to bare metal.
