1984 Direct Link A.I.R.
1984 Direct Link A.I.R.
Unicorn.
Here is the 1984 Direct Link A.I.R frame I purchased directly from Tim Lillethorup in 2012.
This frame is 1 of only 4 made under the Direct Link label and the only A.I.R frame to have surfaced to date. As far as Tim can remember, 3 frames were made and given straight to team riders before the manufacturer disappeared with all the material Tim purchased for the first batch of frames. After a period of time Tim had located the manufacturer and this one frame was sitting in the workshop. This frame was the 4th and last frame made under Direct Link. There are some other frames that are the same or slightly different outside of Direct Link, labeled as Kustom inc. this is my favourite bike I have ever built. I love the way the bottom bracket is cradled by the down tube like the STR-1, and the little bent head tube support bar similar to a National pro. Such an awesome old school frame. This frame was also signed and dated by Tim when I purchased it. Enjoy.
Breakdown.
Frame. 1984 Direct Link A.I.R. Fork. Direct Link. Bars. VDC Monkey bars. Stem. Pro-fit. Headset. Hatta Mx1000-s. Grips. Oakley .5Brakes. Dia comp. Clamp. Dia comp. Seat. Shot Gun II. Post. Shimano DX. Pedals. Shimano DX. Cranks. Bullseye 1st gen. Hubs. Son Lite. Hoops. Araya 7X.

This thing is off the chain. Such an elegantly beautiful frame an fork. Superb parts list to finish it out. I gotta hit the fav button on this one.

Awesome build!! I wonder if that was the inspiration for mid school style bike frames? The one tube extending past the seat post and bending down to the rear triangle?
Looking a set of Tioga Monoblock pedals. Also looking for a UFO Pro 24.

Hi Ryan. Could very well be, I'm not sure if it was done before. I think Tim had this rear detail on a frame he had manufactured for him earlier than 83.

Re: 1984 Direct Link A.I.R.
One of those unicorn ultimate machines. Sort of the ideal dream bike no one ever actually had. Cool to see.
I'm not going to be able to ship until about Friday this week.....Friday the 13th....oh no!
Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86. Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly. There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

Re: 1984 Direct Link A.I.R.
I love the "normal" DL frames but that thing is off the hook, as well as the chain!! Not to mention the bars, cranks and chainring!! Stunning bike and an instant fave for sure!!

Thank you. I purchased all my Direct links from Tim, director of Direct link.
He sent through the original artwork for the down tube decal to me.
Would be great to see your one, I haven't seen another one yet. Is yours a Direct link or Kustom inc frame ?
