this thread may help you
KG = factory
i = 9th letter of alphabet = 9th month = September OR L = 12th letter of alphabet = December
H = 8th letter of alphabet = 8th year of the decade = 1988
9317 = production run number

The stickers on the frame look 91 or 93 but the SN reads 88 to me, based on the thread I referenced. But, I am not an expert.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

that is 110% not an 88.   Numbers are missing from the SN# btw. My guess it's a 1990 or later Performer.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

Right but he never shows the SN just mentions it. There is no way in any universe that the bike shown is an ‘88. Nor an ‘89. We GT experts instantly recognize the modern GT logo in the coin roll and the newer fork drop out vs the ‘87-‘89 style. The stickers are definitely 1993. I agree with you, 91-93 era frame and fork.

Thanks

Re: GT Serial Number Info

Hi can anyone explain why some gt pro series look like that the top tube extends a little longer behind seat tube ? I have a 84 pro series but looking at some other pics of 84s they look like have longer extension. Maybe it's just me. Cheers .

Picture?

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

I don't know it, but did you check the first page?

The GT Pro Frame Changed in 1984(Mid Year) with the End of the Top Tube Going from Flat Cut to 'Balogna'/Angle Cut and Unstamped(No GT 4130 as That was After the 'Unstamped'-there's a Thread). With the Change there are Holes on the Rear Drops and Windows on the Fork Drops. The Early 84's are Considered the '83' Style-vs the 84-85 Style. There Seems to be Some Mixing of the Frm/Frk as There was Overlap of Inventory at Bike Shops BITD.

Re: GT Serial Number Info

So I have a entry level GT Performer the decals are 88 but the serial number on the B/B is D S 7  0515472 . If I  am reading this correctly this frame was made in May of 87 is that correct? Or would it be October 87? October makes more sense to me being that it is stickered as a 88.

Thanks for any help

Curtis

Im guessing the "I" is actually a "1" which would make more sense making it made 8/91. Would have been decaled/sold as a 92 model.

P.S. the decals on it are 95, incorrect obviously

Thanks Hobbes,  I recently pulled this one out of the garage and started cleaning it up. I’m the second owner. The original owner said all the decals were the ones that came on it. So it must’ve been a left over from 87. Thanks again for your help http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/47125/3109238b-d328-44a7-a4c5-455746691b835d5706c9ee.jpeg

Re: GT Serial Number Info

i am looking at a project bike for sale at a local bike shop. guy claims its a 94 gt performer. s/n is YC4H5048, can anyone verify that this is a Japanese made 94 performer? And are the Japanese bikes worth messing with? Chrome looks excellent on the bike but it is only frame, forks, and front brakes. it will be a father son project that will be ridden, i hope anyway. thanks for the help
