Re: NOS 85 PK RIPPER

I’m glad I have been around this since 2002 and have read lots of similar stories that have kept me from buying new nos stuff! Sal has been at this for years. You newer guys need to do research and ask questions so save you money and headaches, I see the new Tuf Necks and Pro Necks being sold as nos all the time even on here.

WTB: S&M Redneck xlt stem charcoal and gold and blue
WTB: S&M Purple Enduro V2 53 or 55
WTB: Credence rootbeer brown stem
WTB: Orange S&M Tuffman sprocket, xlt seatclamp nickel, blue! Bar tabs"ends" in blue and nickel, green
S&M dx pedals.
WTB: PL-20 Carrera vinyl toptube pad.

Keep something in mind in this hobby....if it sounds to good to be true most of the time it usually is.  I am not saying they are fakes or not BUT just the idea that they may be is enough to sour those items.  Those that commented here have been in this game a VERY VERY long time and have seen it all.  Being critical of something is not hating on a story or an item....its mainly questioning the validity of the item and not your integrity since people have been taken advantage of 1000's of times.  People also faked Tuff and Pro necks and there are thousands of fakes out there and even people who were around got screwed so just keep that in mind when people question a story or a part.  Its not an attack on you but the back round of w where you got it from.

Thank you

This completely seals my opinion on these frames being repops.

I wish Sal would drop dead.

I live for SE, Race Inc, Nomura, and Navajo!!

Hey guys, go ahead and keep selling everything SE, GJS, and Nomura to Thailand. Once it's gone it's NEVER coming back to the US. There really IS more to BMX collecting than money!!

If I hear the words "RARE", "GRAIL", or "SCORE" one more time, I'm gonna f'n puke. ALSO, NOS is NOT a condition description. Being NOS has NOTHING to do with the actual condition of the part.

BMX Museum, where every single "score" thread is followed by a FOR SALE thread 15 minutes later.

Re: NOS 85 PK RIPPER

yikes

Even though we know whenever there's collector's there's people who take advantage to make a buck, it still makes me sick to hear stories like this.  Reminds me of that feeling when you find your bike was stolen...

At least he's got some nice frames out of it.
But still, not knowing the whole truth up front is whack!

I read op plan to finish one black with gold parts. Will still be rad to see that. smile

Re: NOS 85 PK RIPPER

Damn man your are fast!

These would be a nice addition to the black one:

https://www.planetbmx.com/shop/images/source/KOOL_STOP_INTERNATIONAL_PAD_BLACK_GOLD_3.JPG

They all three came out great, only thing I think would have been even better is swapping all parts and decals between the white and polished one. smile

If this Sal guy keeps pumping out the fake stuff, why has someone not paid him a visit? I am sure there are guys that want to break his hands.

Those are stunning builds! They are actually rarer than a true 85, only 5 known to exist...facts! I think this thread may have made the bikes infamous and may incite demand...especially if sals hands do get broke.
You never know

Seems like a missed opportunity, that he didn't get custom decals made: "RIPPER OFFS"

I Was GONNA make a Remark about 'For Which Era-The Era They Represent OR the Era they ARE? BUT...I Have SOME Personal Insight on this Same Situation(Except In Muscle Cars) and have Settled how I feel. I Worked for a Restoration shop that were the First to Sell Repro 1969 Camaro bodies here in Phoenix. They were made Because Demand for Original bodies was that, It was Worth Buying/Building by Owners. Most Guys DIDN'T Care about Authenticity-They Just Wanted a Nice Car...Plain and Simple! Do They Compare to Original-NO. But They Are NICE and Satisfy the Owners Want and That (IN THE END) is Who It Matters To! Now if Ever Sold....

Re: NOS 85 PK RIPPER

So no serial 85's = pretty much fake?  If "Sal" is such a skilled fabricator, why didn't he stamp these with fake serial as well? I mean, if you're gonna go all out to fake something, why leave out the most important part? So in a way, it's still easy to identify fakes since they have no serial.

True. Had Sal Put Serial #'s on them the Forgery Woulda been Complete. Maybe A Little Morality on Sal's Part? Had I Wanted a Mint PK-I'd Would've Got Decent(Rider) Ones, Had the Flaws Fixed and Refinish Them As OG(As Close as Possible).
