70's - Probably Christmas 1979; Star Wars toys, Lite BRITE, Spider-Man big wheel ... This was the last "happy holiday season" in my mom's house.
80's - June 10, 1987 ... The day I discovered my "special purpose" ... If you don't know the reference, then the close 2nd from the 80s was when I bought my 1st bike @ 4 years earlier.

Re: best memory from 70s-80s
Man, just reading these posts puts a smile on my face.
I had a reverse mullet trying to be just like Ron Wilkerson, except riding a master. Coming home from school, watching transformers before heading out to the local basketball court to bust out some decades and California hoppers with my friends. We'd take a brake once in a while and talk about all the chicks we wanted to "go out with"
Simpler times....

Re: best memory from 70s-80s
Summer was a non stop sleepover at Dougies. Ridin up to the plaza everyday to hit Torque Center....and Schobers Bike shop. Carlton 120s. Rubberknife Gang. Sneakin thru drivethrus to grab dropped change for a beverage. Bugle Boys. French rolling the bottoms of Ur pants. Ditch weed outta a soda can. Alpine Valley music theater. Sex Waxing every curb in town. Tobacco Bongs. Friday Nite Videos. River Raid. Rip Grip. A bag of free burgers at George Webbs after the Brewers took the 82 world series. Those plastic spaceships that happy meals came in a McDs. Denise.
I Enjoyed the hell outta my young life. Left it all on the field back then. I remember the smell of the air at the end of an awesome summer day as the sun was setting. The sweeeeet smell of Freedom. And Rector Rot!
I like BMX bikes.

Rector rot was the WORST!!!!Got to smell that summer day last summer.me and my wife went up by mammoth where I spent alot of my younger childhood. We went on a bike ride on a pretty hot day and out of the blue it started to rain. But not dumping but the drops were freakin huge. That smell of fresh rain on the hot asphalt always snaps me instantly back to some very rad days.

CHIPS, going to discos with my aunts, learning to cuss, the Incredible Hulk, go carts, skipping school, throwing rocks, penthouse mag, jeans with patches on the knees, being around cigarette smoke everywhere, going to the same movie over and over again and looking back today, realizing that my parents were and are the greatest part of my childhood.

Riding coaster wheelies on my 78 Champion past the Mall, or high schools, and all the girls would stare....
Staying up late on Friday nights to watch Bob Wilkins Creature Features, then Saturday night live the next night......
Going to Farrells Ice Cream parlor to eat their Hot Fudge Nutty nutty......
Waiting for the Next BMXAction mag to hit the news stands, and getting the last copy......
Finding a copy of Playboy magazine in some random location...............
Building club houses underground in vacant lots, and playing" secret agent man" by Devo on my little hand held tape player....
Filling up our friends Panel wagon called "The Meat Wagon" to go racing at THE LOCAL bmx track on the weekend....
Going to see Star wars 27 times in the theatre..... Man, I could go on for days at this......
Bmx was pure fun BITD, I think nowadays, some folks have forgotten what its really all about. And what it truly is.........

Re: best memory from 70s-80s
my best memory from the 80s is every friday me and a couple of my good friends would gather at my place and work on our bikes, grease the bearings, clean everything, and switch out some parts, and usually my friend would bring a frame set every couple weeks that we would work on. we would have music playing, like metallica , iron maiden, scorpions, metal church, all diff music. these were some of the best times and my friends would help me a whole lot with building my bikes. they were very good at building bikes, Im good too but i get stuck on brakes and 3 pc cranks sometimes. rotors and stuff like that gets me sometimes. they would always do that stuff for me.

I was looking for it, but for the life of me, I couldn't find it. I guess memories are meant to be lost.

Re: best memory from 70s-80s
I miss kids spending most of their free time outside and actually getting upset to be told its time to come in. I miss when society had a sense of humor and didnt get offended by things like manhole covers. I miss when the school system didnt try to convince my son it was "brave" to dress like a girl and we actually stopped and said a prayer on the school bus before field trips. I miss the GOOD Saturday Night Live when every single skit wasnt a political rant. I miss when moms in school would bring treats for birthdays and holidays to the entire class without the threat of killing 4 with a peanut and wounding 2 with gluten. I miss when our troops were hailed as heroes and treated as such. I miss when a kid would act up they would get spanked by just about everybody. I miss when college professors werent turning kids into America-hating communists. I miss the 80's so damn much it hurts......they were good times and we didnt even realize it.
Just an oldschool minitrucker and bmx kid doing what i do....
Proud "Klunker" hater.....

The 80s were definitely cool but the 70s were pretty amazing to. I loved Corona Race track and riding in the back of pickup trucks.

Good stuff. Red man chew. levi Garret Big league chew ! Like others said walking to the corner store, buying Mad magazine, Kiss cards, lighters and lighter fluid and making tennis ball launchers (Polish cannons?) buying cigs from a machine for like 60 cents a pack where you pull the lever and they drop. Puking after smoking them.
The British heavy metal invasion and American thrash
Yamaha YZingers - blown away when I first saw one.
Head shops. Snow Dust - Coke Snuff - Rush....sold to 12 year olds. crazy.
