Looks good.  I use Naval Jelly.  Only takes 10 mins.  Next time I use it, will get before and after pics.

I have used naval jelly in the past on guns.  I am aware of it.  I don't like using it on chromed parts.  This is an Oxylic Acid how to post.  You red quad is boring.  tongue

I know there are other ways to remove rust from parts. Citric Acid and Vinegar baths are the other two popular ways that have been documented in the museum.  There are others as well.  If those work for you, great!  I’m not disparaging any other way to remove rust.  As previously stated, I am merely documenting how to do an Oxylic Acid (OA) bath.  So, I am asking up front to not comment on any other ways to remove rust in this thread.  If you do, I will instantly make fun of you and your bike(s).  Of course, all in the name of good fun and cheap entertainment.

Re: How To Do an Oxalic Acid Bath

Fantastic work!  It is hard to believe that some would pass on these bikes or think the are lost causes because of some surface rust.  It is even harder to believe that some would suggest one give up instead of putting work into it.

Does oxalic acid ever attack any plastics?  I need to clean rust off the spokes of a '69 Road Runner steering wheel without hurting the plastic rim.

Re: How To Do an Oxalic Acid Bath

This is truly amazing, I’ve got an 84 Skyway TA to get her done with!! Shout out to Jayediesel for pointing me to this post and selling me a beautiful legend. I’ll be doing this in the next week sometime. Before photo!!

I’ve also got my first 97-98 Gary Fisher Mr.Skinner that’s been in storage since 2004. I’m going to dig that dirt jumper out of the pits and treat her to an OA bath. I’ll be sure to get pictures of every step cause last time I checked she was absolutely covered in rust!! Thanks again for this very informative post, much appreciated Sir.

Best regards
Matty

Your comment is confusing.  No matter what message you are trying to convey, I would NEVER think I have a claim to his profits or proceeds from youtube because of a video he produced by using information he found in this topic.

I didn’t come up with this process.  I just created a how-to sticky to help others.  I hope his video does the same.
