Re: 26" Cal Custom Cruisers and Strandies...ONLY!

I also vote to clean it up and keep the original finish. Here is a pic of another one at The Gary Turner swap a couple of years ago. I was told that it is also a Laguna. It has the Laguna fork. The frame looks identical with the same pierced seat tubes, cigarette box, rear dropouts, etc. It also has the same Takagi crank set up.
Very cool find. Congrats!

Re: 26" Cal Custom Cruisers and Strandies...ONLY!

I did a few changes to the Bassett:

Suntour slant stem with a set of widened Powerlite Powerbend bars:

I installed a Phil Wood front hub and blueprinted and polished the rear Bendix hub:

I custom machined hat washers and dropout savers for it as well.

Mine when I first built it and cruising along St Augustine Beach... I love riding this thing.. would love a Laguna or Bassett...but the frame was free and I had some of the parts laying around..btw first seatpost bent in 5 minutes...the one on there now is solid aluminum and could withstand a bomb...

Please.....no Tuff Wheels on full on race bikes...original graphite’s only and pre 82
Let me guess you were factory sponsored in
the 80’s...

These girders are a pain in the ass to get adjusted perfect but finally a got some good advice from somebody that was familiar with them and that was "Don't try to get them perfect cause precision wasn't a top priority when they were made  " Then it all made sense wink
