Pulled the trigger on a Genuine Bicycle Products Red Menace frame/fork set.  A real Cook Bros. Racing Cruiser is beyond my means, so this is my poor man's version.  Definitely a great bike to menace and cruise the neighborhood or the strand. Re: 26" Cal Custom Cruisers and Strandies...ONLY!

Green Duck, way cool, nice choice of leather color.  Very original.
Red Menace, also very cool.  Paul makes a nice product.  Looks like a nice way to thrash around the neighborhood.
Maybe I mentioned this before.  I was sometimes a bad kid on a BMX bike.  Ever cruise the neighborhood as a kid on garbage night and side kick garbage cans?  Ever lay waste to some nice landscaping a little too close to the sidewalk, like some fresh gravel or bark?  To this day I can't pedal by a garbage can without the urge to nail it.  I know, karma, right?  A couple years ago some kids drove through my neighborhood destroying mailboxes.  Mine was one of them.  By the time I was done fixing it I was into it for $300.  Karma.

Have this posted in the klunker thread but this is probably a better place.http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/253633/20190214_1237345c65de3a6f.jpg

Just because I'm to big to ride it doesn't mean I'm not going to build it or buy it.

Re: 26" Cal Custom Cruisers and Strandies...ONLY!

I was so enamored with the first Red Menace and did not want to have to switch parts depending on if I was in a red or blue mood, so I bought another Red Menace frame and fork set.  Both are in the Museum, and here are pics of the blue and both together.  Also, allows my wife to roll hard on a strand ride, instead of a girlie strandie, ha!

Re: 26" Cal Custom Cruisers and Strandies...ONLY!

Back in 2010 or so, I became a little obsessed about building a 26 incher.  I was looking for a cool 3-Bar to build up. I even looked into getting one of those Landrace frame sets from Porkchop at the time.  After losing an eBay auction for an S&S Newport frame set, I ended up with a KOS Kruiser.  I built that up, but quickly sold it to build a bike for my kid.

Fast forward a few years and I kept coming back to this Strandie thread on the museum.  I have clicked thru every page of this thread multiple times over the last couple years.  Some really cool bikes in here and the bug bit me again.

Although a Cooks or Laguna would be awesome, my budget is a bit more “Schwinn”….  I started studying all the cool Schwinns on here as well as Rat Rod’s website and I determined that a 62 Typhoon would be pretty cool.

Given the low/short production of the straight bar Tyhoon, I figured it might be a task to locate one.  Last week I was browsing Schwinns on Craigslist and I saw this!  My first attempt to locate a twin bar.  Guess I lucked out, lol.

4 hour round trip to pick it up Saturday.  I’ll post pics when I start building it up.

erichevy,
That is going to be a great build. Props to you for going that direction. IMO, if a Cook is not currently in your budget, it's way cooler to build a vintage schwinn or emory than to buy the repop stuff- sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings, just my 2 cents
Also, when you do have the funds for an original Cook, Laguna, etc., it will be that much sweeter!
