1978 Team Mongoose

Oddball Team Mongoose

This bike was found in a bulk trash pile in Honolulu so I don’t know anything about it’s history.
Frame is definitely made with thin walled cro-mo with a 6 lb. frame weight and has the “All Tubes” sticker that is original to the frame as further evidence. It is odd that it doesn’t have the T designation in the serial number, is painted with a metallic blue paint (not the usual transparent blue over nickel) and doesn’t have a crimped seat stay on the drive side dropout. Serial number puts its production in Chatsworth, March 1978.
I have kept the frame, fork and wheels in original condition with only a light cleaning and replacement of certain parts to make it rideable.

Probably not a team model then? Still cool anyway.

I’m guessing it’s an early release or pre-production judging from it’s date of manufacture. The tubing, dropouts and gusset plates are definitely thinner and overall weight is lighter than a regular Motomag Mongoose. It also sports the “All Tubes Cro-Mo” sticker that is original to the frame.
