1983 Kuwahara Survivor

A bike i was not supposed to build and keep. LOL

So this one was a bit of a story from my side. A buddy of mine wanted to sell his complete bike with some additional parts. He wanted to sell everything as a package deal and not split the parts as i needed the parts to finish off my Laserlite. Eventually I went all out and took the whole package and thought I would pass on the not needed items including the frame. When everything arrived at grease Monkey garage (my workshop's name LOL), I immediately had a change of heart and decided to keep the frame set and see where it takes me. After researching it I knew it was a keeper. This has got to be one of my favourite builds thus far.

The parts list is as follows:

Chainring bolts: Suntour

Re: 1983 Kuwahara Survivor

Very nice build.
Is the blue the original colour? Are the parts on it original to the bike, or upgrades by the original owner? I know you mentioned you got it as a complete but I had read that the survivor model came as a complete with lower end parts to make it an affordable racer. The set up on yours  would not consider low end. Very nice set up.

Thanks for the kind words.

The blue is original to this bike. I havent seen much of this model in this colour though so there could be a story of sorts for it. The parts the bike came with was the Laserpost, Sugino stem, Promax seat, Suntour broken arrow seat clamp...with those items I just figured it must have been a Survivor model even though the ad and research websites shows differently. I initially thought its a Laserlite by just looking at the frame as the geometry is identical as well as the appearance...oval top and down tubes. I dont know of any other models that has these tubes except Laserlite and Survivor. I built it based on the feel of the Laserlite I had (Suntour power stem mainly as the sugino stem is just too small for my liking)...so yes the parts are not stock...just what I wanted to put on it thats close to some sort of spec even though its mixed.
