The evolution of my Redline 102b.....

I bought this frame/fork with the idea in mind to build a tribute to my 1st new BMX bike that I was able to buy from my LBS back in '83/84. I tried to recreate it from my memory of almost 30 years ago.....unfortunately I had this bike stolen from me not too long after I built it up and I can't remember alot of what I had on it back then.....

Here is what it looked like when it came into my possession.....it was definitely a candidate for a restoration project.

I had it powdercoated to replicate the black frame I had BITD and I built it up without the decals.....I removed them when I was a kid because the red/yellow colorway did not match the blue parts I already had.....

The above build just wasn't doing it for me.....most likely because it wasn't my actual bike from all those years ago. I decided to give the ole' Redline 102b a makeover and this is the end result......I am quite happy with the way it came out.

Not crazy about the blue version, loving the red version.  Good choice to re-do it to your liking.  The decals were a must...

Re: The evolution of my Redline 102b.....

Looks cool to me.  The final version looks the best, so you did a good thing IMO.

Hutch Fun Facts: All main line Hutch's with digits only S/N (no letters or baseballs) on the rear drop outs were US made and had their dropouts stamped between late '83 and '86.  Obviously the frame manufacture would occur slightly after that, even if they just threw 'em in a bucket randomly.  There is an obvious date code in that the first 2 digits seem to be the month and the 3rd digit is pretty obviously the last digit of the year running from '83-'86.

To each his own.....I don't think it is a shame at all. The blue paint was in very bad shape when I got it.....It was very faded and had alot of flaking going on. I gave it a new lease on life by refinishing it the same color I had when I was 13/14 years old.

yea. the 102b was the only frameset that was available in every redline color.
red, blue, yellow, black, white, chrome, mine is chrome and the most common.
yellow and blue are the most rare followed by red.
