Re: CRANK WARS! What are the best cranks ever made?

i am currently running profile 19mm cranks from like 1999/2000 on my street/park bike and i haven't had to adjust them or heard a sound out of them in 3 years since i put them on my last frame. i keep thinking about picking up a GDh spindle just because i like the way the hollow bolts look with the lazer etching, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.

i used to be a redline flight devotee, had an early 80s set of flights (with a 95 bb and spindle) i got in the mid 90s that i absolutely thrashed on for about 4 years with zero problems. but my PL26 came with reissue double pinch flights and they start to creak few miles in every time i ride

Re: CRANK WARS! What are the best cranks ever made?

Dreams do come true! I have been waiting a VERY long time for 160mm Alloy Cranks that can stand up to Street Riding. Insanely frustrating that they arrive at a time I'm incapable of riding!!! I will however be owning a set regardless! I LOVE Eclat Maverick Cranks, I think they're pretty much a masterpiece of design. Eclat however refuse to release them any shorter than 170mm.
Now, Primo are Re-Re-Releasing (Many times over more lol) the Powerbite V2 Cranks. They did the 2-Piece 16-Spline Cranks & now for whatever reason are going back to the Square Spindle & offering them in 160mm & 165mm Lengths!!! The 160mm being the new edition here as Hollowbites were released in 165mm for a short amount of time.
I'm beyond stoked, 160mm Polished will be on there way to me as soon as they hit the shelves in the U.K!

My mate from Australia saw them on a distro site, he's on here actually his Insta name is Destroyervich something like that in useless with names lol. His names Scott.

After that, I contacted Rich Hirsch & he has confirmed it for me. I have the picture from the distro also I'll upload it in a sec.

Re: CRANK WARS! What are the best cranks ever made?

I may have responded to the OP on this but I guess the best cranks depends on a number of factors. Weight, purpose, style, price.

Redline 401's are my favorite but I raced SR tubular one piece in 1983 and they were the lightest thing going.

To someone else it will be a different crank, for different reasons.

Hard to beat Shimano DXR or Box Vector for NS race. Each Install in literally like a minute (I own both). Both super strong, reliable, look great

3PC- Profile SS...suits late 90s perfectly
1PC- Specialized cranks from a 97 flyboy, never could bend or snap them.

Those Shimano DX cranks form the 80's are the most beautiful I've even seen.

Mid School Oddity:

Dan and Ed cranks with very early use of belt drive.  Also noteworthy is the Mid BB.

This set is 175mm long with a 52T sprocket (belt not chain).

Thank you.  I have chain sprockets for the set, but the belt is so interesting.  Especially in 1995.

Would like to see a pic of the belt if you could please. I've been a mid school guy forever and never seen these...there very cool.

I know of the new school belt drive systems out nowadays. Surprised they haven't caught on...seems like a hassle in some people's eyes but not mine....like seeing new tech in the bmx world!

Yes I have 2 of those that are both slightly bent.  Only the non-drive side though - go figure roll

One of them is getting replaced with a 3pc when I finally get around to restoring the bike it's on.

I have one of the style above, as well as one of these, basically the same cranks:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3RXWGCS51K0/Txbl8L9DLPI/AAAAAAAAOS0/T1oy6CUcW4Y/s1600/GT%2BBMX%2BOld%2BSchool%2BChrome%2BOne%2BPiece%2BCrank%2BArm.JPG

never understood the reasoning behind beefing the hell out of the drive side. the non drive side cant be much more beefy due to needing to fit through the BB.

Not the best or strongest for sure but I thought they looked cool. Can never find much info on the single pinch Haro ? It's always the non pinch. This is a set given to me I refurbed.
