Congrats to Chase Elliott on first win. Was at Riverside Raceway when his dad won his first race.

Re: NASCAR

That was finally a good race. So sick of seeing the same 3 drivers win. Seriously what happened to guys like Brad, Jimmy, Kurt, Joey, etc. not that I'm a big fan of those drivers but they look like back markers?
NASCAR is surely hurting though. It's a painful, slow death. I used to watch every NASCAR I could for 25 plus years now I'd rather go for a bike ride or hike

Ahh, got you. Yes last year and this year really interest has very much dropped off. Especially after Jeff Gordon retired, then Dale Jr, TS, etc. Sad, among my group of friends that was THE thing to do every week, we'd rotate going to each others places, grill out food, watch race, etc. Miss those days / memories when stands were packed, big name drivers, real honest rivalries.

This has to be the saddest and funniest thing I have read in awhile. Wow. So he will ban himself? If nothing happens, then its all a big joke.
Maybe he's finally depressed by the drying up money, half or more empty stands, losing most all the big name and $$$ earning for the company drivers in the last few years...

The Silver Fox. One of the best. Back in the TNN days , I think it was him and Buddy Baker just told old racing  stories instead of calling the race for awhile. It was great listening to them.

Now that the Super Bowl has wrapped up, it's two weeks until the main event, the Daytona 500 with Daytona Speed Weeks kicking off with the Bud Shootout and the ARCA demolition derby as the opening act next week. cool

Since a little kid I watched every nascar race I could. I can recall all kinds of info. I have raced small track many times. How can you just reset the points after 26 weeks? Then have a playoff to advance to next race? When chase went to playoff I literally never watched another race again. And this section of race winners? I just can't take any of it. In the 90s if you were champ and there was still a race left good for you. Money and marketing ruined what I had loved for so long. Rant over...

I'm actually glad NASCAR season is coming.  It's about time for a sport where I still believe it's a wide-open field.

As far as "the chase", I had mixed feelings about it--but I will say that I like the idea of having to "finish strong".  I don't miss the days when the champ was decided back in August.

Re: NASCAR

New rules package to even more artificially try to get good racing. Slower, less HP. No decent rivalries. Bizarre stage racing that is hard to understand all the points (let alone the chase). My whole group of friends, we used to be ravenous Nascar fans, watching every race, every week, in person with each other. Its been years since any of them have expressed any interest. I've tried holding on, but even myself the interest is just meh. Love my racing but my passion is with F1 and Indy. Don't get me wrong, I'll be watching Daytona but its just sad. Hell, even Jayski just folded!
