1980 Hutch Pro Racer

1980 1st generation Hutch Pro Racer with drilled out brake bridge

This is my 1980 Hutch Pro Racer. My parents bought me the frame & fork for Christmas 1980 and me and my father built it from the ground up.Though most of my original parts are now gone i was able to hold on to the Hutch bars,Flight Cranks & Titron/Hutch bear trap pedals. The frame and fork are in original condition with some flaking of the chrome in spots and as some of you might remember the 1st Hutches didnt have the best chrome jobs, but still looks pretty good for being 30 years old.As seen in the picture i did drill the fork out for front brakes back in the day , not to good of a job either but what did i know i was just a kid . I raced this bike up and down the east coast from 1981-1984 in sanctions like the WWBA,EBA,NBA and of course the NBL & ABA.I would have to say that my best memory on this bike would have to be batteling Steve Veltman(factory hutch) in my motos at the 1983 NBL Grand Nationals in Nashville,Tenn. This would be in my opinion the best era of bmx racing with real factory bike teams not the bike shop "factory teams"like we see today.Well thats my story of my bike hope you enjoyed it and if anyone knows of any other drilled out Hutches please let me know because i would love to know how many are still out their.

Very cool that you still have your old race bike. The early to mid-80's was a special time to be racing.
Even cooler with the drilled brake bridge.
I drilled a set of hutch front forks BITD for my son's bike too. Still have the forks.

1980 pro racer. Rare!!!!! A father son project. Even after 33 years. My son and I are doing a 1984 hutch trickstar.
