I had the same bars BITD - I just bought a pair of the STR straight bars off of eBay thinking they were the same thing, but when I got them, they were much shorter than I remember mine being. The recent bars are 28 x 6.5 as described in this thread.

The dealer put together a 102b for me with black v-bars, in 1984 - but they were too low for me. I replaced them with the taller chrome 28 x 9 bars.

So, I'm curious to know what the 28 x 9 bars were too. I have no idea if they were stamped, but they def had the red and black Stu sticker on them.

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

I have these. I believe they are micro lines. They are 23" wide and are chromo. When I picked these up they had very scratched up blue paint. When I restored them, I took them down to bare metal. There was absolutely no stamp on them. My guess is these came with a Redline sticker. Or they are some VERY well made fakes.

When I first got them

redline also made the STR bar unstamped.
this model only had the stu thompson sticker.
the shape and size of these are exact to the other
pro line v bars. they just have no stamp of any kind.
they also came in both v-bar and strait bar styles

This is a better pic showing my nickel 1st gen bars. I had them powdered 3 years ago because they were rusting They were extended 1 inch either side by my dad in 1982. I love these bars more than my GT Pros.

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

I didn't notice any like these posted yet, I got them on an 83 survivor PL-20 that based on the parts was probably a Carrera II they measure 28" wide and 9" tall from lowest to highest point and have both the Redline oval and WIN stampings but no STR and I can't tell if there was ever a decal on them anywhere.

Anyone know the story on these?

What year did each Proline bar come out? Nickel, oval stamp, block? Were there two oval stamps?

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

I raced on Micro line bars (23") and I don't know if I recall them having a stamp. Just not sure. A later set I had in 2015, I know had one. I bought my race bars from my local redline dealer separately, not Japanese bar on a complete bike. They have an oval decal. I also always had a number plate on my bike. I only have plated off to clean my bike, then put right back on.

I later had them lengthened to about 26.5-27"

In the earlier day most bars were shorter. They started getting longer aroun d83 in general.

Re: Redline V bar sizes shown and explained.

I'm sure if someone back in the day of the budget bikes of the late 80's early 90's and bought a budget Redline, I assume the bars could be unstamped and made of High Ten steel with the same dimensions or even a unstamped Cr-Mo V Bar as OE. Looking at only a few adverts will not clear this up, that I can tell you.
To be frank, even tho my name is Kevin...I never liked the V bar, so I am happy that I need not worry about it. Why, because anything that is designed to flex, and does flex, simply eats up torque and torque equals speed. Cr-Mo flexes enough without adding a V to a handle bar only to flex even more. I wonder how many Redline V bars I thrown out over the years?
I also read somewhere on the Museum that a pro member told someone redline didn't make Alloy V Bars back in the day. I find this funny that the ppl who think they know what they are talking about really don't know anything. Just saying IMO.
