They're reacting and that's wonderful. It's better than them sitting there doing nothing. I say make them react - do whatever's in your power to move the audience, and if that's where it is, and there where it is with America, sex and violence, then I say project it.

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

What's the deal with bigger front tires????
I don't get that at all.
I noticed the WTP JUSTICE I want has a larger front tire as do allot of new school bikes..
Is this necessary?

Extra cushion when you land, more grip when you're leaned way over, less chance of pinch-flatting, basically everything is better with bigger tires.

Yup and less force on the wrists. I noticed it immediately when I rode on a 2.3 on the front of my GT. Usually when I hit a bump my wrists would take the force.

I understand biggers tires, but why the bigger one on the front??

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

Clearance.  There is only so much room back there before you have to start using smaller diameter chainstay/seatstay tubing.  Nobody wants a flimsy rear triangle, so there's usually a limit to what you can fit on any given freestyle frame.  Even if the chainstays are thin enough, like on a race bike or something, if you use a big enough rear tire, it'll rub the chain itself.  There's more room to expand a fork without sacrificing strength or affecting much else on the bike.

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

So how much bigger is the front?
And does the mis mat h tire size affect the ride negatively at all?

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

Kuwahara Laserlites when they first came out had a huge front tire. But bigger tires don't give extra cushion if you have them inflated to 100 psi!. They usually put a skinnier tire on the back so it doesn't rub against the rear brakes.

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

So why not put a matching tire on the front?

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

Well the old school reasoning was that a bigger tire in the front gave better traction and steering on a dirt track, and a smaller rear tire is less drag/rolling resistance and was lighter. How that's transferred to new school I'm not 100% sure as all the bikes in my neighborhood seem to have matching tires. I've personally always ran matching 1.75's as I found them to be smoother for street riding and I find the new school tires have a lot more rolling resistance.

For racing? because less surface area means lower rolling resistance. I would imagine they put fat tyres on the front because hey, I would rather lose control of the rear than the front?

I don't bother with 100 PSI+ now. Once you get to 70 it makes very little difference (to me at least) and just puts more strain on the tyres and tubes.

Watch any modern street rider video. Doing a barspin 360 down ten steps and landing flat is why they have a big front tire. It's suspension.  Street is the style that has been the most popular for a while now so the bikes reflect that. The big tire trend started with Fly's Reuben tire about 15 years ago.

Re: I JUST RODE MY FIRST NEW SCHOOL..

like others said:

Front for easier on the wrists and forks, rear easier on going all out and not making the ledge...a fat tire will let you hang up and give a margin of error on landings.

You can go way bigger and drops will be easier on the bike and your body.

And what purpose does the seat being slammed serve?

If I ever get this WTP JUSTICE, don't think I'll do that..

Nothing other than getting it out of the way and again, reducing weight. Seat posts these days are like 4" long and that's it. You gotta remember that back in the mid school a flair was a party piece, a show winner. Now? Harry Main can pretty much do them from the ground. Due to the bikes. Webby does them almost out of nowhere too.

Yes, most newschool frames use a 25.4 post like the midschool bikes.
