2011 Standard Bykes Rick Star 24

Hutch Trickstar and GT Performer Hybrid, sized up to a 24" for a Texas sized man
Winner of 2nd place @ Dallas Vintage Show where it was signed by Woody Itson

The Hutch Trickstar is my favorite frame design of all time, next to the GT Performer of course.  I missed out on the Knight Gt 24" Performer which hurt, so I figured why not do one just for me.
After careful deliberation I came up with this gem.  The back end (looptail, standing platform, and coaster brake mount) of a Hutch Trickstar, and the front end (kinked downtube) of a GT Performer.
I have a fetish for looptails and I thought it would be cool to do the GT Performer with a looptail, but I figured while I am at that, I might as well do the entire back end of a Trickstar since it was also one of my favorite bikes.
So I called up Standard Bykes finding out that they have a great custom shop and Rick and Jesse went right to work.  Rick said this was one of the most challenging bikes he has ever done and took by far the longest to make.  After 6 months it was finally finished and here it is.
I designed the decals myself, and had the seat made by Retro BMX
I always like GT's Green that they used and know that Hutch did several Candy colors so I thought that Candy Green would be a good medium.
After that I wanted the whole bike to be Green, White, and Black.

Re: 2011 Standard Bykes Rick Star 24

This is absolutely incredible. Never thought of that. Do it in 20 inch and white I'd buy one, provided it was within my price range. Love what you have done. I am like you, my two favorite bikes would have to be the gt performer and hutch trickstar, there are several that come super close to being my favorites as well, but those two are the ones. You really captured the lines and angles perfectly, this is an impressive build.cool

Yeah it was pretty cool.  My friend put a low shutter speed on the camera so the water would blur.

There were 3 Germans there who stopped and asked me a bunch of questions.  I told them it was a prototype and they wanted to know when they hit the market.

Soon I hope. big_smile

It being in my name is part of the reason.

But Preston Tucker is one of my all time heroes.  You might remember the movie "Tucker" with Jeff Bridges.

This is the Tucker Torpedo, my grail of grails and I doubt I will ever even see one in person, but if I did, I would honestly cry a little bit.

I remember the movie. Great film! The Torpedo was way ahead of it's time. I'd love to see one too. The closest I'll come is looking at the limited edition Franklin Mint one that I bought for my father years ago.

Have you checked out this site to see if there is one on display near you?

http://www.tuckerclub.org/html/see_a_tucker.php

It says there are several in Virginia. I might just have to check and see where.
