Old school bikes that are to fragile or too expensive to actually ride.  Don't get me wrong, they are indeed super cool, however they just sit around and collect dust and are only relevant to those folks over 45 years old.  There, I said it.

I was just thinking about this.
There are a few people, like me,  that will pay good money for their childhood 80's BMX memories...and then it's over.

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Somehow when building a 26 cruiser, I ended up with a single 40 spoke Araya 7x rim. Guess I didn't pay close attention to detail.

How old are we talking because I still thrash my 89 gt performer with old Hoffman and gt parts. Weighs a ton but she won't break.

Think i even used dt swiss spokes. I challenge anyone to put more money into a less desirable set of wheels neutral

My most displeasing purchase BMX-wise was definitely the 1st gen haro flat master a few years ago.

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Original tires.  I think almost every time I've bought NOS or original tires I've been disappointed.  Maybe some day I'll learn.

But I doubt it.  big_smile

Older than that. And, with all due respect, those bikes are crap.  Easily found, overbuilt tanks.  I'm talking late '70's to mid '80s at the latest.  You know, the stuff that sells for into the thousands.

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Spending £1000 on two bikes I actually don't even like and will never/can't ride.

I had a word with myself after building one, then went straight into building another one roll

Note to self - stay away from old bikes.

That’s great. I had two that I did just about give away. Then every time I see one pop up on CL for like $150 I’m just like ,”good luck with that sale”

Re: Your worst/dumbest purchase

Umm....I found a complete beautiful and super rare Rallye freestyle bike in a guys basement after he posted a grainy dark picture of it.  100% OG down to the white freestyle tires.  Well the guy was iffy about shipping it or even letting it go.  Then emotional Chris took over and I started offering trades because you know, I HAD to have that bike at all cost.  All said and done I traded a set of OG blue ano araya's with shimano race hubs and one OG white tech 7 lever.  I try not to think of it but all in total I probably spent 5-600 retail value on something I probably couldn't get 200 bucks for on the market.
BUT....I wanted that bike and now I own it and over-trade considered Im happy.  Just not a smart financial decision....Lol  Kinda makes me cringe when I see the market on Tech 7's though...hahah
