Re: Pics of the dumbest BMX Shit that was supposed to be cool?
There's a hot-pink Randor scooter/skateboard I keep seeing on ebay every now and again. NIB. I'd probably give that a nod for this category as well.
I can only partially agree on the Fishbone stuff. Their gyro & some stuff may be weird & less than properly functional...but other stuff worked awesome & looked cool too. Sushi bars are still in my top 5 fav bars of all time. Skull brake levers were very cool. Seatposts were unique & functional (not with stupid hand holds). And Blowfish freecoaster was one of the first freecoasters to be widely available.
I'd agree on Sunday. The "look" is cool, but then you realize it's the same part they've been selling for 10 years, but made in limited-edition colors so they can sell more. So basically, you're buying a bike for pure cosmetic appeal--because nothing really justifies or distinguishes one Sunday from another. But even Sunday isn't in the same league as most of the rest of this stuff.
Euro BB deserves a nod. So do bashguards, frame-standers, stem-standers, fork-standers, etc. Slingshot doesn't deserve to be here. You know what else runs on the same suspension principle as a slingshot had 30 years ago? Your modern agitator-less washing-machine. Slingshot was just ahead of its time.
BSO's should be getting more notoriety on this list--they all suck. Bully should be on this list every other post. Moosegoose too. Frames with a funky rear triangle for non-piercing drivetrain shouldn't be on this list. That design will be the wave of the future (already happening) as belts replace chains for race bikes.
Disagree on white tires. GUMWALL whites belong on this list. Reflectors & chainguards don't qualify, since they were never considered "cool". Frames w/o brake bosses...THOSE belong on this list; so do the idiots who decided to stop selling stems with gyro tabs (that's an easy weight-savings).
Those who dislike Israel are in favor of Jewish and Kurdish Genocide. It's that simple.

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/or … 363249.jpgIt's fun to see these companies trying to reinvent the frame. I haven't seen anything except the 2 piece with the shock absorber support a functionality argument.
The chainstays being raised like that means that you don't have to break the chain to remove it from the frame. It doesn't go through the rear triangle like normal.
It's a little benefit, but it's not enough for me. It's not like we replace chains very often anyway.
There were two benefits to an elevated chainstay design. The first being eliminating chainsuck. The second was allowing the chainstay length to be shortened while still allowing wider tires.

Would love to find my old Dirt Bike. It was stolen in Pompano Beach, Florida in about 1996. It's a '92 with the block graphics on a Green frame. Pitchforks, Slam bars, GT (DK-style) stem and GT/Profile cranks. Superlace hubs. Would really love to put this back in my collection.

Fluted seat posts. Yea, I had one. Great way to get your frame and BB soaked in water, mud and rust out the frame. Maybe that's why we parked them flipped upside down in front of 7-lls playing Donkey Kong and Tron

Re: Pics of the dumbest BMX Shit that was supposed to be cool?
First off, this thread is hilarious!
Love seeing the gimmicks that came about from all these obscure manufacturers.
Some are definitely better than others, and some are certainly quite rare today.
I've got one. No one mentioned drum brakes. Ceppie ran them and had everyone scratching their head. Once people got them, they realized - hey this weighs a ton, and doesn't work as good as these DC's I was going to toss out!
On another note, I worked in a bike shop here in metro Detroit, as well as Camp Woodward. Sometimes I saw some crazy over zealous freestyler throw every bolt on possible on their bike.
These were kind of like luggage racks as previously mentioned, but even more so.
They were totally rickety, and would damage the living daylights out of your bike, not to mention the additional weight...did I say heavy?
I once saw a kid with every bolt on imaginable on his bike. ????????
I remember he had one of these skyway or pacific stands, the seatpost stand, the headset stand, the tioga bars, some generic forkstanders, as well as the fork stand plate that was offered...not to mention GT rear platforms and pegs, multicolor chain, handle seat post, and a yo! Rock N roll seat..
That dude must have delivered a lot of papers BITD.????????????

I kinda have to disagree a little, while ,yes, a little gimmicky, I ran drums back in the 80s and they worked fine. I would say as well or better than a caliper brake. The wheels on my TS I have now lock up at speed! Also , my wheels weigh in at 3lb , and I found an article stating Skyway Tuffwheels weigh in at 3lb as well. Could almost say Magwheels are gimmicky too. Lots of people think those are a waste of time and money.
Anyway, I enjoy my gimmick wheels
