^Can't deny it still screams "80's freestyle" just as much--if not more--than all those other bikes.

Tits line up!!tonguetonguetongue

I agree , pretty much most bikes before 85 where just race bikes , not as many freestyle options till the mid 80's . That's just my opinion from Indiana, maybe Cali had more options and it took a couple years to reach us.

I 2nd or 3rd this, also being from Indiana! GT, Haro and Mongoose decades were the thing to have!

Re: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BMX TOP 5

I used to dream about these trademarks : GT, DYNO, Haro, Redline and Hutch when I was teenager.
But the most famous oldest bikes, in my memory, are Diamondback and PK Ripper I had known in the early 80' in Thailand.
I think these are the most popular bikes in public opinion worldwide.
So imo :
GT Pro Freestyle Tour team model (the one with the 2-times-bent front bottom tube and the cableway through it)
Dyno (Detour?) (the one with a bent fork)
Haro Freestyler with a chrome/color frame
Hutch Trick Star even if it isn't a fav of mine
Redline RL-20ii

And a special dedicate to the Hoffman Condor even if I don't consider it as an OS bikes!

Living in France, I'm here for improving my English, learning technical words for my 3rd hobby : BMX. Catching some pop/slang words/sentences is very interesting and instructive for me too.
The first two are bonsais and Betta splendens breeding. Far behind the love for my daughter of course.
Looking for friendship worldwide. PM me smile

Re: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BMX TOP 5

My top five faves are the 1987 GT PFTTM, in pink, black or blue; the 1988 Haro Team Master in green; the 1984 Hutch trickstar in chrome, the 1987 General osborn pro in red/chrome, and the 1988 Mongoose decade pro in pink/chrome. The most popular were of course the various incarnations of Fst's, Perfomers, detours, the mongoose FS 1, plus the horde of race bikes turned tricksters, the host of gt and haro clones, and the like.

Re: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BMX TOP 5

Trick Star--bonus points for that sick crinkle black finish
Haro freestyler/Master--Something about those twin toptubes. Pref. in chrome or white
Quadangle--These were just as exotic as freestylers as they were as race bikes
84-85 Performer--had my favorite geometry of all the freestylers. got to have tuffs!
GJS Freestyler--They looked so bitchin

Re: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BMX TOP 5

The above seems to be a list for "my favourite bike " as opposed to the top 5 iconic bikes .
Do people know the difference between "my favourite" and " iconic " ? " Holly grail"  is another one that ends up as my favourite bike list !

In order to put together a 'logical' list, I believe we need to split the sport of freestyle into it's 2 main genres. I have no experience with the old school bikes listed here but I am confident in my estimation that certain freestyle bikes listed up until now were better suited for either flatland/street or vert.

I can see how a PK or Skyway was listed by some members. Perhaps they were iconic for vert riders. And a Trickstar was most likely iconic for flatland. There definitely may be some bikes that crossed over into both flatland and vert. Let's try the list again, this time top 5 flat and top 5 street and top 5 crossover.

.......................Freestyle...................

Flatland (street)
1.Hutch Trick star
2. GT World Tour
3. Ozone
4.  1987 General Osborn Pro
5. 91/92 Haro ground master

Vert
1. PK Ripper
2. Sky Way TA
3. 1987  Haro sport
4. 1986 GT performer
5.  1993 Hoffman Condor

Crossover (solid for flat and vert)
1. 1987 General Blood Pro
2. CW Racing California Flyer
3. 1987 GT Pro Freestyle Tour
4. 1988 Diamond Back Strike Zone Woody Itson
5.  1995 Standard Shorty

Re: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BMX TOP 5

Definition of iconic

1:  of, relating to, or having the characteristics of an icon

2a :  widely recognized and well-established an  brand names :  widely known and acknowledged especially for distinctive excellence an iconic writer a region's iconic wines

With this in mind I'll also add that the most recognized/visible/pop culture oriented aspect should come into consideration. Basically what bikes were most displayed in film and print.
Part of the reason I got into freestyle was because of the bikes I saw popularized in movies and magazines.

(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER) just a few pop culture mentions
#. HARO MASTER/SPORT (RAD/BMX PLUS/FREESTYLIN)
#. SKYWAY STREETBEAT/STREETSTYLER/TA (RAD/ASK MAX/THE BIKE/BMX PLUS/FREESTYLIN)

Heres my profound, life changing statement.
Lifes a bitch..PASS ME A BEER.

They're reacting and that's wonderful. It's better than them sitting there doing nothing. I say make them react - do whatever's in your power to move the audience, and if that's where it is, and there where it is with America, sex and violence, then I say project it.

Re: MOST ICONIC OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE BMX TOP 5

Well I'm from London and the following were iconic to me as we only got to see these bikes in magazines.

Top 5

1. GT Pro Performer (Eddie Fiola) and Pro Freestyle Tour Team (Dayglo Pink) BMX Plus
2. Haro Master Team  DMC shredding Flatland on 101 Freestyle tricks
3. Dyno Pro Compe  Brett Hernandez and Dave Volker in BMX Plus Adverts
4. Hutch Trickstar (Chrome) Woody Itson was the man
5. Skyway Street Beat (Uk Riders Carlos Griggs and Craig Campbell) rode for Skyway and these bikes were heavily featured on a Uk BMX show called "BMX Beat"
