1975 Dan Gurney Eagle Deluxe
1975 Dan Gurney Eagle Deluxe
Square Back
Fully restored...
Found this one by accident behind a shed at an investment property I bought this past Summer. It was complete and I had no clue what it was. Thanks to this site I was able to figure it out. Never saw one of these back in the days.
Bars: Original Schwinn Scrambler (made by Ashtabula I think)
Stem: Original Schwinn Scrambler (made by Ashtabula I think)
Grips: NOS Hunt Wilde Schwinn Scrambler
Forks: NOS Ashtabula (still have the original Schwinn/ Ashtabula's too)
Wheels: Skyway Tuf 1's with the rear guts being from the original Bendix hub found on the bike. Much better than the Suntour set-up that the skyways came with. The original steel Araya 2.125's were not salvageable. I went with the Tufs because they are close to being period correct. They look good too!
Tires: Old School Cheng Shin's
Cranks: Original Schwinn Scrambler (made by Ashtabula I think)
Chain wheel: Original Schwinn Scrambler (made by Ashtabula I think)
Seat post: No name
Seat: Original Dan Gurney with embossed Eagle (never considered restoring a seat until this one. It has a couple of the usual nicks, but is in really good shape over all. Bead blasted the seat pan, cleaned up the rubber cover and then used some kiwi shoe polish on it to make it shine.) Hope this build can help somebody else out who's researching for a 70's build.
I'd rather beg for forgiveness, than ask for permission.

Re: 1975 Dan Gurney Eagle Deluxe
I love it!Hey I could be wrong,but I think the seat is a Schwinn product,too.I've seen it before.Any info underneath,like Persons,or Troxel?I've got a similar seat,but It's embossed"Schwinn approved",instead of the Eagle.

Re: 1975 Dan Gurney Eagle Deluxe
Thanks for the comments fellas! Kai...I didn't see anything under the seat, but it was pretty rusted when I got it. Spent alot of time on that seat, but I think it was worth it. I've never seen another exactly like it. Wish I could get a clean photo of the embossed Eagle on it, but alas my camera is crap, and I ain't no pro...

Re: 1975 Dan Gurney Eagle Deluxe
Yea,I looked at my Schwinn seat,no markings either.but mine has a tag on the back like a mongoose that says Schwinn in large letters and approved in tiny ones.
