1990 GT Vertigo

My very first name brand bmx!

This was my first real bmx i purchased back in the summer of 1990 in my early/ mid teens. Threw my ownership it has gone threw many changes in a short run until i was hit by a car while crossing a street which left me hospitalized roughly 4 weeks or so. But i bounced back.
As for the Vertigo, the forks, front wheel, and handle bars took most of the beating, and were replaced  so i could ride it again, but then later come to find out that the top tube near the head tube had cracked just behind the factory weld. How it caught my attenttion was a weird "clacking" metal sound when ever i would jump, or bunny hop. Took me a while to find it, and how i found it was when i was detailing it and saw the crack, and saw some paint chips near the head tube along the crack. So it bummed me out.
But before it was retired, i had it built up with..
Dyno Drain pipe, Odyssey Pitbull mounted under the rear chain stay tubes/bottom bracket, twin bolt GT seat clamp, chrome  Haro Knee Saver handle bars, Dia Compe Tech 77 locking levers, Redline chrome forks, Gt steel tube ride pegs out front, and Haro Fusion steel tube ride pegs out back, Haro Multi Surface tires, GT winged 43T disc, and Araya 48 spoke wheels with Suzue loose bearing hubs. Everything else was as is from GT.

No plans for this frame/fork set. It's like a trophy in a certain way to me for what we went threw at that time.

Re: 1990 GT Vertigo

Thanks.
Looking back now, and knowing it was damaged from the get go, i would've left it as is. But back in those days, no one ever thought those bikes would be what they are today. We rode them, parted them, and sold, or gave them away. LOL

Re: 1990 GT Vertigo

I remember that shitty day. But the hope of riding again helped get you out of hospital and back on the bike. Those were some great days. If we only had kept all the frames and parts we had. Now its costing me a small fortune for this stuff and starting to turn me into a hoarder.
