1980 JMC Racing Black Shadow
(BMX History - the #1 JMC Black Shadow made, serial Number: 2175)- Read more here:
This is my first build after being an active rider.  A lot of love went into this build ... so, please do fave it - I really appreciate. :-)
From the moment on when I saw a JMC BMX bike for the first time, I totally fell in love its beauty and elegance.  JMC was much ahead of its time.  I tried to keep it functional and simple – only black and chrome – similar to the great styles of the BAUHAUS.  I took some pictures where you can see the Black Shadow in front of other great master pieces of Design and Architecture – like the German National Gallery by Schinkel, the German Historic Museum by I.M. Pei - and in front of the Berlin Wall.
In addition, I collected some of the finest BMX parts ever made ... And put them on this historic JMC frame set ... A tribute to Jim Melton. RIP.  Here a list of the most important parts and a short description why I think I made the right choice:
1. JMC Parts
Frame & Fork: JMC 1980 Black Shadow # 2175
Let me quote Wikipedia here: “The JMC Black Shadow was the most desirable of their models with a reputation for light weight and an excellent black finish.”
I consider myself very lucky to be the proud owner of the first Black Shadow – a nice jewel in my little but fine BMX collection.
JMC Darrell Young Handlebar: I went for the DY bars since they are a bit wider than the older models of the JMC handlebars.  And since I still ride the Black Shadow for fun, I want to have the best ride possible.  What I especially like about the DY bars is the oval side tube what gives it a special look.
JMC Seat post, layback:  The nice little feature that this post has is the JMC stamp on the very top end of it. The other feature is unfortunately the super high price which makes it a pure collectors’ item.
2. Some of the other great parts:
Titron Pedals:  These great masterpieces are milestones in sports product design. I often thought “if Steve Jobs would have designed BMX parts, this is exactly how the pedals would have turned out – simple, functional and really cool”.  No wonder that Hutch later bought Titron for all the great products they designed.
Redline Flight Cranks 401: Of course, these were the cranks that we all wanted to have on our bikes back in the days but often could not afford them.  They were the first really high quality cranks and also convey the simple, functional cool like that I was looking for.
Hubs MXR Mini (NOS): What especially excited me about the MXR hubs are the two things.  First of all they are (AFAIK) the only hubs that were made out of one single block of alloy.  Second, they have a very cool shape – look a bit like the Son-Lite but not as aggressive.  They are a very rare find these days since very few omwere produced.  Today, only 5 sets are known to exist.
=> update July 2015: now with Son Lite Hubs - also awesome
Flying W Stem: The Flying W offers several advantages.  First of all, it is one of the most beautiful stems ever made.  Then, it is quite long so that for taller riders this stem is a great choice. My all time favourite stem.
3. And here the list of all other parts:
* * Elina Lightning Bolt Seat
* * Mitsuboshi Tires Comp 3:  I am still looking for a pair of Comp IIs in black.  But I was not lucky yet.
* * Izumi Chain
* * Araya Rims, re-chromed
* * Oakley B2 Grips (NOS)
* * Dia Compe Brakes MX 1000
* * Tech 3 Brake Lever, chrome
* * Tioga headset chrome (NOS)
* * Hutch Seat post clamp, black
* * Haro Flo Panel black
Thank you so much for fav'ing my bike!  :-)

Re: 1980 JMC Racing Black Shadow

Is that a euro bottom bracket?  Looks small in the one picture but I've never seen Redline 401's on a euro so if so, what bottom bracket are you using?  VERY SWEET build!
