The only comparable supplier inside this price range for new cruisers seems to be SE-bikes, right!?
And what I've heard: Good/high quality...
Currently there are four offers in this range from SE availabe in Germany (with Cr-Mo frame):

All those color schemes are a little bit "babyish" in my eyes...or am I wrong?
Maybe they will look much better in real life...
And the aluminum frame of the also available 26" "Ripper" appears to massive/oversized in my eyes compared with the cr-mo ones:

Lol, I got me 2 out of your 3 examples
I guess I could flip some parts around, would it be cool to put all the anodized red parts on the red bike?:

Hehe
As I thought: Looks much better in reality...
Congratulations to your pre-christmas gift(s)!
If you ask me, then I wouldn't swap particularly the red parts to the red frame.
This because for me the "salt in the soup" of this bikes is the contrast!
Combine all same colored items could cause a boring appearance, I guess
Merry (pre)Christmas to You

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion
Thank you! And Merry Christmas to you to!
At first I inquired to buy the 2017 PK Ripper 26" L.E. but I couldn't get it through either Holland, UK or Germany.....do you know about that, it seems to be not even for sale in Europe, they told me it's not in the pricelist and I haven't seen one online either.
Anyway I got a great clearance deal on those 2 older models so I am now glad to have both of them instead of just the one limited expensive 2017 model otherwise.
Speaking about contrast, I do like 2 colors scheme but 3 can be a bit of a crowd haha.....this red PK 26" shows how they should have done it:
I think like that it is just as nice as the current limited black/gold model.

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion
Same here with my 2017 26" GT Performer...
Made for US-market, and the only way to get one out of a limited quoter (they say just 25 for whole Europe) is a pre-order in UK
Seems that you still can get the 26" SE model out of 2015 here in Germany for about € 650,-...but in fact there is no offer for the 2017 model (but only for the "Fat Ripper").
By the way:
The red Ripper seems to be more a 3 or 4 color scheme, because of the black accents like (in the) decals on frame/fork and crank arms, followed by some screws and the valve tubes as well as the white accents you can find on the pad set and in the seams of the seat
That's the "salt" I mean
And I agree: Looks much better then the stock variation - much fresher

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion
.
I've tried to compare the new 2017 version with the prior one out of 2012.
Seems, that the wheel base is a little bit longer now.
Also the chainstays are nearly horizontal, lifting the bottom bracket to a much higher position.
In addition the upper and lower tubes are higher and modified relating to their angle, compared with the prior design.
Take a look (first pic background: 2012 version with black frame, second pic reversed):

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion
.
Signs and wonders happen...I've received my 26" Performer out of UK today
As far as I can see, the quality of this one compared to the 2012 model seems to be much better:
Everything's straight, and the welds are very beautiful
The platform - based on the seatstays around the seat tube - appears much smaler compared to the 2012 design.
Pretty sure that chromed spokes would increase the look to a much higher grade, particularly for the white model.
All decals are in good condition and positioned correctly - with the exception of the stickers near to the bended downtube part.
Those are aligned to the upper border of the pink triangle of the background, as a result the "GT" lettering appears slightly sloped.
To be honest: This might be the best compromise, because the reinforcing plate between the downtube and the steering tube having a striking edge.
By sticking the stickers at the correct angle the triangle would cross the reinforcing plate edge, and as a result the triangle could appear crumpled.
Against this background I'm pretty happy with the orientation of these stickers

In fact I was surprised, that there is also a "Lee Chi" front brake (caliper and lever) as an "add on" inside a box

You're absolutely right!
Handlebar, Grips and Lever were pre-assembled.
No idea why they've placed the Lever on the wrong side...
Could be a problem for those who don't want to mount also a front brake, as I will (because of the possibly damaged paint under the Lever)

Congrats! You will love it. My favorite daily rider. Geo is really comfortable. I think I'm ready to swap out the brake. Can't get it set properly after multiple attempts. Seems to be the cheapest part on the bike.

What issue are you having, remove and grease everything, the tension is set with the lower screw and you tighten down the top. Hit the gandle a few times, if theyre not returning or dragging add more tension. If you swap them I'll take the old ones. These set up well for me. Checkout Odyssey Springfield, supposed to be the quickest/ easiest brake to set up. Im running 1 set, the tension is from a spring between the arms.

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion
I think it's the u brakes I don't like. The Tektro are easy to adjust and seem to allow a more gradual stop. I have u brakes on 2 bikes and I have got them from the bike shop with terrible tension. I've gotten it better but there is always a give at speed. Who knows, maybe I'll become a u brake master in my 5 minutes of spare time lol. Thanks for the tip.

Re: 26" GT Performer (2017) - quality discussion
.
Many thx for the Congrats and tips!
Performer is still waiting to get finished.
But I prepare to make some changes, before touching the street - particularly swapping the handlebar and the seatpost against chromed ones.
Relating to the U-Brake I think "AD990" would look great, just to underline those old school look.
To be honest: In my view the tires are too fat...
On my other 26" Performer currently I use Panaracer (Pasela PT), having 1,75" width
What do you think?

I have always had the rear brake on the left hand side of the bars, I don't think there is a right or wrong side....which ever you prefer would be best. nice looking rides both of them, but I do prefer the 1.75 tyres..

Yes, I also prefer 1.75" - really sweet on 26" diameter.

All I'm saying is that many British riders seem to have their rear brake lever on the left.
I grew up in the eastern part of Germany and I remember my first bike having a coaster brake and the lever for the front brake on the right side of the bars. My first "BMX" bike was the same. Getting used to having the rear brake lever on the right took me a while.

.
Ah, ok...thanks for explaining
Unbelievable scenes!
Rob Ridge is an awesome artist, as I can see...
And yes, they use the rear brake on the left.
Every bicycle I've driven before uses the left lever for the front and the right one for the rear brake - funny
But I'm pretty sure that there's an error in my composition of the Performer!
Also the sales-photos on the website of Alans BMX (UK) showing the only lever on the drive side for the rear brake, namely the right side ...
By the way:
Where do you came from here in Germany exactly?
I was born and still living in the federal state "Nordrhein-Westfalen (North Rhine Westfalia)", near to towns like "Düsseldorf" and "Köln (Cologne)"...

Thx DutchRipper
No, the Performer is still like a virgin, waiting for the right day
Will do some custome works on it before starting the outdoor season.
Including a chrome layback seatpost and a also chrome Performer handlebar.
Would like to swap the U-Brake against a Dia-Compe AD990.
Will also mounting a front brake - not sure which model, but Dia-Compe for sure!
Not sure about the pedals...maybay swapping against Shimano DX or Suntour XC2 (copies).
Preparing to build a GT Mallet for 1 1/8" by my own...
As you can see, a lot of work to do (and no time for it... ).
Relating to the weight I can say that it seems to be more lighter than heavy.
Someone wrote in a parallel thread 31 pounds (about 14 kg), but I'm not able to confirm this, sorry.

Got mine to Sweden a few weeks back, and giving it a full do over directly.
It's currently away for a new day glow powder coat.
Can't wait to get it back.. again.
Ignore the weird colours for now:
