1" frame and 1 1/8" forks i remember someone saying how-to
i think it was a certain headset for a 1' frame that allowed a 1 1/8" fork to still fit thru the cups and bearings. anyone know for sure how to do this? thanks, matt

Re: 1" frame and 1 1/8" forks i remember someone saying how-to
just gotta find a headset with bearings that are compatable with both your headset cups...just look to see what you have laying around...just a simple trial and error... but i reccommend doing this, the threadless set up is a better stronger set-up....
just ride it

Re: 1" frame and 1 1/8" forks i remember someone saying how-to
i know the 1 1/8 is stronger. someone posted a specific brand 1" threaded headset that you just use the cups and bearings in a 1" frame and you can use 1 1/8 fork with the 1 1/8 headset spacers and bearing races.

i did the convertion. i used tioga bear trap headset cups, then i had to find a spare 1 1/8 threadless headset to use the parts.

Re: 1" frame and 1 1/8" forks i remember someone saying how-to
simply stick the 1 1/8 system in the 1 inch cups.
depending on brand/style you'll have to find bearing cages that will slip over the fatter 1 1/8 steerer tube as well as spin on the 1 1/8 race.
cheapy wal-goose bearings are the most compatible i've found so far.
the 1 1/8 race needs to have a nice smooth taper rather than the style that has a couple of flanges that get in the way. again, wal-goose 1 1/8 races are PERFECT for this conversion.
start picking up those walmart bikes you see on the curb, boys!
This is what it looks like:

the cups need are the tioga mx-2 beartrap cups,or,any good one inch cup, that is of the deep type, not like hattas or tioga mx4',then the rest of the threadless set up,I do it with the bearngs only, without the race, and works smoother that way.just grease it liberally and apply the bearings one by one.

Re: 1" frame and 1 1/8" forks i remember someone saying how-to
I just used a cheap yst 1" headset for the cups and used 1 1/8 bearings and rest of 1 1/8 headset. The 1 1/8 bearings are snug in the 1" cups, but doesn't affect the steering at all.

Re: 1" frame and 1 1/8" forks i remember someone saying how-to
Hi guys,
I'm new to all this but I have a 1" Homeless Player Headtube and a 1"1/8 Kore threadless fork. If I'm understanding correctly, I need to do the followings for the conversion:
1) Get a 1" Tioga Bear Trap and use the cup only
2) Get a 1"1/8 headset and use all except the cup
Is that true?
