Re: King or Profile hubs

Interesting to see this topic. I wound up parting the bike(most of mine actually only kept my Profile) to do a big block up grades. But I think I likely would of done Profiles from what research I gathered.

Re: King or Profile hubs

Black Chris King hubs or Silver Profile Cassette hubs?

Good thread.  I'll be building some new wheels for my 2000 GT UltraBox (http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/gt_bicycles/63186).  I'm trying to keep the bike relatively era correct, so I'm going to go with either black Chris King hubs or silver Profile Cassette hubs (the original high-flange ones).  I already own these hubs (the CK hubs weren't cheap roll), so I now need to make a decision smile .

I don't race (yet), but if I do, I'll want to give this bike a try - hence, I want not only the best looking hubs, but the best performing hubs.  I'm leaning toward the CK hubs (w/ stainless double butted spokes, silver alloy nipples, and my chrome Araya Super 7X rims, 3X front/rear), but I'm wondering what you guys think.

p.s., I have Profile cranks/sprocket/saddle/stem lock and a Chris King headset on this bike.  I may switch out the silver Profile sprocket for a black GT Overdrive Lite or a black Profile Hurricane sprocket though.  And I believe that CK BMX hubs came out in 1995 or 1996.  Here's a digital copy of the 1997 Chris King catalog: (http://issuu.com/pharv85/docs/chris-king_1997).

Here's what my bike looks like now smile .

Ultra box.... The next thing I would build. Some Kings would look period and make a statement on it. Or just part it and sell me the frame set tongue

Re: King or Profile hubs

....now, that I read this....I do believe my Elites POP. I thought that perhaps I had set something up wrong, or that my spline drive sprocket was the culprit. The other Profile hubs I roll are KILLER...so, I'm surprised that my issue could be the EXPENSIVE rear hub...
HMMMMMMM
Anyone have any luck getting sorted on an upgrade/replacement?

Thanks for the input smile .  My UltraBox is probably the last bike/frame that I'd part with, but you occasionally see these frames on eBay.  They usually sell for between $175 and $200 shipped.

Re: King or Profile hubs

Old thread, but if you're looking for modern hubs that'll draw attention to your bike, you should check out Industry Nine wheels.  They're only available in 32H, but they have anodized aluminum straight-pull spokes and don't use nipples cool .
