Maybe if the kid is 4-5 and it's their first experience.  if the kid is 2-3, strider is the best way to go.   Its so so so much lighter and easier to use.  my 2.5 yr old and pick it up curbs under him and keep going.  He can just turn it around and go another way.  Also, they are easy to sell off when done or pass down.  hell my 6 and 9 yr olds like riding it too, trying to manny it and such.  I even got the rubber tire wheel kit.  makes it awesome on the track.

Fit is king, strider fits little kids best.

As stated previously strider bikes are a way to get younger kids into the sport of BMX.  My little guy doesn't have to sit at the track watching his older brother race anymore, he is now included.  Just taking off the cranks won't get it done as USA Bmx will not allow that configuration on the track.  So before posting negative rants, please educate yourself, the bicycling world is large and vintage BMX and Freestyle is only a small part of it.

yikes wow so they can't  ride a BMX  on a BMX track but that can ride a stider at that age .hmm  sounds like a weird rule.

Re: Stop the Strider madness people.

If I showed up at a track and they would not let my kid ride because I pulled his cranks off instead of putting him (or her) on a "real" strider, my kid would never see that track again.

USABMX rules, follow them or don't race.

Tracks don't want parents that refuse to follow rules.

Re: Stop the Strider madness people.

I don't mind "the rules" in general, but something like that I don't see any point to. Unless there is some safety issue I can't think of. Just another reason they are struggling for riders, maybe they should be trying to make things easier and more appealing instead of frustrating. Might help.

struggling for riders? over 740 motos for last years grands, id say that's hardly struggling.  it was the largest race ever held.

Re: Stop the Strider madness people.

Hmmm. My local track is pretty much dads and small kids. Most people I talk to say that ridership is down. What do I know about it, I've been out of it 20 years, just before the NBL went bust.
