Re: Dave Mirra BMX Legend Dead at 41

I would bet he had CTE.  He has never been the unstable type.  One of the most laid back guys ever.  Maybe we don't know everything about him but this seems so implausible as a straight up suicide.  Something else was in play.  I will always think of him as one of the very best ever and one of the burliest, aggro and bluntly fearless riders ever.  God rest his soul.  Thanks for all the fun memories, Miracle Boy!  You will never be forgotten.

if it wasn't for Dave Mirra dominating what little coverage bmx got in my city/country I would've never bought my first bmx..
it can't be easy to have everyone you meet love your past and brush off your present..

Re: Dave Mirra BMX Legend Dead at 41

I've just got back into messing with bicycles again. Saw this on Yahoo earlier.

I've known the name for years, being an '80s kid. Hell, Mirra was literally 10 days older than me.
RIP, man.

RIP Dave. So very sad. Dave inspired me to get back in to riding after watching him in the X Games back in 2001. I went out the next day and ordered a 2002 Mirra Pro.

Re: Dave Mirra BMX Legend Dead at 41

Guys, there is a stigma here. Doesnt mean someone is unstable, or had a head injury, or is crazy.
You can be emotionally in pain...and not be mentally ill.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS. I hear guys writing about HIND SIGHT BEING 20/20.
Well ending the stigma starts with every one of us.
YOU DONT HAVE TO BE MENTALLY ILL to be depressed. Sad. Unhappy.
Just HURT. (EMMOTIONAL HEALTH)

Heres my profound, life changing statement.
Lifes a bitch..PASS ME A BEER.

They're reacting and that's wonderful. It's better than them sitting there doing nothing. I say make them react - do whatever's in your power to move the audience, and if that's where it is, and there where it is with America, sex and violence, then I say project it.

Re: Dave Mirra BMX Legend Dead at 41

So bummed. Me and our oldest boy would go see him at the X-Games when it was in L.A, during the early-mid-2000's. Even got to see him win gold in park on his gold bike. I am so sorry he felt so sad. We will miss him but have some great memories of seeing him at his best.

Here's the part you're missing: Your brain is 'you'. It controls you. You do not control your brain. If your brain is damaged, you may not be able to value life, family, friends, PBR, Ford trucks, bacon, and BMX the way healthy brains can. It has NOTHING to do with logic, values, or morality.

Thanks to Dave Mirra for all the joy he brought to people.  Let's hope that the family has his brain tested, because he could help save others.

Re: Dave Mirra BMX Legend Dead at 41

it's easy to say "I wouldn't have done that" or "he should've gotten help" but, not everyone can be "helped" and not every "helper" is competent..he could've been sad for a long time or he could've been sad for a short time..he could've been in a rage over something he just found out..maybe he saved his wife's life by taking only his own and maybe, just maybe it was an accident..it's all speculative at this point..
