Re: 1979 National Hot Rod

That's a seriously  bike but definitely deserves some more info and pics!

Check out my 1983 VDC-built Trident, 1983 Kuwi Laserlite, 2010 GT Ultrabox 2, 2011 Crupi race rig and prototype Quamen, plus the all things Crupi & old school scene in Japan threads. Always interested in buying used, mid-school race plates and pads - UGP, Knucklebone, Lizard Skins, Odyssey and Pryme to name but a few!!

Re: 1979 National Hot Rod

this is it! I have been looking on the internet for ages for one of these, of any year, that was stock. these bikes were manufactured by electronics and road racing giant national Panasonic( matsushita electric) and were very popular here in Dominican republic pre 1985. I had a total of 4 of these, in various conditions, from complete to framesets, and they ruled. super light, strong as nails, I have several action shots of me and some friends riding these circa 86-87, but there is very few info on the web on these. I have been storing parts for an 83 version, which was very similar, it also had shimano sx levers, kkt amx pedals in anodized gold and the rims were araya 7x's laced to shimano via hubs. the rest appears to be stock, although the tires I remember them to be IRC z80x's.  most of the 83's that got here were pearl white frames with chrome forks and golden anodized parts like this one! I am stalking a complete 83 that is about 20 minutes from here! hope to get it soon, that is actually the only bike I want right now.

https://s3.amazonaws.com/uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/4301/national-panasonic-francisco-pipeline56d3ccade4.jpg this was Francisco valdez at mundo sobre ruedas skatepark in 1983, that one was the same as yours with a white frame. he had switched from the stock suntour stem, which cracked, to a longer acs type.

Re: 1979 National Hot Rod

there were at least 20 of those around these parts, I am on the hunt for at least that complete one, and the last frame I had circa 1994, which is not that far around. it is only a matter of time.

Re: 1979 National Hot Rod

if you ever take it apart for regreasing, would love to know the serial inscription on the fork's steerer tube, I remember it is a tange, but can't remember the exact model. also the bars had a stamp on one of the grips sides, and can't remember what it said, would really appreciate those facts, as well as the seat post brand, can't remember if it was a regular fluted nagaoka. man, you are one lucky dude! that is basically the only bike I am interested after selling my complete collection!

Hello! What is the product name of the brake lever you are currently wearing?
