Re: 1996 GT Performer

Guys, I'm new here and I need some help.

I bought a GT way back in 1997 and it was a performer with a frame 90% like this one, from the back fork design (where the serial number is which I unfortunately forgot) to the back brakes on the bottom, the straight cut back of the top tube, the 3-prong connection from the top tube to the back fork, the front fork oversized as so, seat bar bent backwards, handlebar exactly like that, and all that except mine was a really oversized lower tube and it was straight and had a small metal enforcement welded at the bottom front. It was stolen back in 2002, and I got really upset because it was a hard earned bike from my own pocket money (I was 15 when I got it).

The question is this: Which model is it with the super oversized bottom tube? Or is there such a model that you guys know of?

I've went through the entire GT museum here and couldn't find any examples of it, so hence I come here humbly requesting your help..

I'd like to know as I'd really love to own it again. Back then I had a lot of fun with it, memories much like lords of dogtown. I'd like to relive those memories again sad

Thanks for any response..

Sorry dude, just noticed you posted this.  I think you may have had a Performer like mine.  It is hard to tell from the pics but the downtube is considerably "fatter" than the top tube.  Maybe it was a Vertigo?  Did it have one peice cranks or 3 peice?

Very nice ride.  I love the clear grips with the GT decal under them.  I hope I can get mine to look as sweet as yours.

Re: 1996 GT Performer

I don't think the chainwheel is correct.  It suppose to come with a matching 3spokes chainwheel just like the 3spokes mags.

Re: 1996 GT Performer

Friendly bump and thumbs up. It appears this is the highest rated bike on the site with GT fan mags on it.
Its only 74 pages deep(3500+ bikes) to find this one. Wow. I personally love the wheels, but apparently not many others do!

Re: 1996 GT Performer

I wondered why the hell my bike had decals under the schwinn wal mart grips that were on it. Was hard to tell in the owners manual photos on line. I found black grips like the originals, but no luck with the clear. The black ones were original accessories in the catalog. Are your pegs original to the bike as well? I am running the same ones,I figured they were from the same era.
