1983 Birmingham Wheels Expert

Extremely rare Birmingham WHEELS 'Expert' race bike.

Here is one of two Birmingham WHEELS framesets that I am currently building up. I have been hunting for these frames for many years, as they are extremely rare and difficult to source. Very lightweight, and with a large looptail design, these frames are particularly sought after in the UK due to their links with the famous 'Birmingham WHEELS Project Raceway' track and the Birmingham WHEELS race team. This is an 'Expert' (or 'Standard' as decribed in company literature) frame and has a top tube length of 18.5inches. Frame serial number 515. This frame has exposed brazed welds and also exhibits 'Reynolds Butted' stamping on various parts of the tubing.

It current sits on Tange ARX forks as Birmingham WHEELS did not manufacture their own forks. The shot of the bike built up showing the brazed weld detail was provided by the previous owner. The frame was sourced from Belgium and came with a NOS Birmingham WHEELS decal set complete with matching Dutch dealer/team 'P.v. Hoof' decals as can be seen on one of the other examples shown in the BMXMuseum. I am yet to find out any details about this, so if anybody can help please drop me a line!
