1987 Haro Group 1 RS3

Picked this up off ebay for a good price. I think it's all original except the tires. Not 100% sure.

Nice - looks just like mine!!!

Is it an RS3?

I think so. Not 100% sure so I didn't put the RS on the title.

Yes, that's an RS-3. The RS-1 and RS-2 models had paint/chrome color schemes, but the RS-3 did not have any chrome. I had this exact same bike in red as a kid.

My '87 RS-1 has no chrome either tho. Black and grey.

If you're referring to the bike you have posted in your profile, I honestly don't think that's an RS-1, especially if those are the original cranks. The RS-1 came with the 3-piece Group-1 cranks, not a one-piece crank. Yours looks almost identical to this bike, which clearly states it's the RS-3 model:

Don't get me wrong, your bike is very cool no matter which Group 1 it is!

I figured this one to be an RS-3, due to the low end parts.

No I was referring to my other Group1. Just saying that my other one is an RS-1, late '87, and no chrome. But then I guess since it's technically October of '87, that would make it an '88? Hence no chrome.??

No debating, just asking. ;)

OK, that would make sense if it was an '88 ....you are correct, no chrome on that year's model:

Re: 1987 Haro Group 1 RS3

My vote is that this is an 88.  The 87's front end was black.  In 88 they switched to grey front ends.  Given the late 87 build month, this was built in 87 for the 88 season.
Given that it has what looks like VP-300's I would agree that this is an RS3 model.  Now what I'd like to see is a factory 88 RS3 in the Grey/Coral paint scheme.

Looking for 1988 Haro Group 1 RS4 frame and forks.  Straight top bar.  Late build 87 serial numbers okay.

Right. Same as mine somewhat : http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/haro/45856
^this was the one I was asking about. Must be '88 then since no chrome. Correct.??

I definitely agree....I've never seen an '87 in that color scheme so I am fairly certain that is an '88 model.

OK, now you've really got me thinking. This model could be an '88 too, huh? I do remember the '87 model in blue but I guess you are correct....the front end was black just like on my red version. Or perhaps this was an '88 model that was built in late '87 based on the serial number? Either way, this bike is one of my faves ever....the Group 1's from the 80s were all very fast and smooth riders.
