1981 Skyway T/A Prototype
1981 Skyway T/A Prototype
One of the first! Of a dozen or so original TA protoypes this is one of them that has survived and surfaced in Redding, CA.
Confirmed by Ken Coster, president of Skyway, telltale signs that this is an original prototype are the unstamped bottom bracket, the open ended, unwelded seat stays and chain stays, and the solid, unknurled dropouts front and rear that have insignia shaped stickers showing the where the cut out placement would eventually be. Ken states that none of these early features would have ever made it to the production model frames. This bike was built in the later 80s, using mostly skyway parts. Second generation graphites with 1st gen axles, second gen bars that came on 300 or 280 TAs and a mix of skyway stamped parts normally found on freestyle bikes and later race bikes.

Re: 1981 Skyway T/A Prototype
I am so glad to see this bike in the right hands, and here on Museum! That is an awesome find! Wow.. the REAL early days of the T/A.... you can see how much it evolved from the beginning design. Congrats, Jeremy!
It's kinda cool that you now have the FIRST Skyway bike posted here.. and I have the LAST bike listed here with the 2013! Wanna trade prototypes....?!! Awesome... just AWESOME!
