Here's my W.I.P. for the kids. Just working on getting the other side done and adding some new features. Originally from a small town skatepark, spent some years in another backyard and now in mine.

Re: RAMPS, Gates, Half pipes, Lets see what you built for BMX

Had a kick turn ramp at mt house that was pretty cool. Wish I had some pics of it. Started to build a QP before my dad shut that project down. Some guys a mile or so away built a street ramp, whch I think Freestylin had a how to build article on. That was FUN. Then 'ol boy had to move and the street ramp went with him.  mad  Some other guys had a 6' quarter pipe with carpet on it. Being so short, it was like hitting a brick wall! Had to ride down an alley and turn between a gate in a chain link fence about 8' away from the ramp on our approach and then back through as you rode away. Always was scared I would catch my handlebars on that gate. Never did. Rick Moliterno gave Chris Romeo his 8' quarter when he left town to start riding for Hutch. I saw that recently in the background of an interview Rick gave around 1985. Pics??.?. Cameras were just not accessible like they are now...f?ck!!!

Re: RAMPS, Gates, Half pipes, Lets see what you built for BMX

Had several ramps BITD - an 8' quarter-pipe, a kick-turn ramp (wedge ramp), and an indoor mini-half.  I'll have to dig out some photos of the first two and post those later.  The quarter is long gone, the wedge still exists but is need of repair, but the mini-half is still very rideable.  I spent some time at my parents' house this weekend cleaning up and repairing the ramp.  Cleaned ~20 years of dust off the ramp, replaced some rotted plywood on one of the decks, etc.  Built this ramp in ~'89 and rode it mostly until '92.  I've ridden it a few times in the past couple of years with my kids but now it's clean and ready to ride.  Enjoy!

Nice! So cool you could build that in a barn and keep it protected from the elements. I'm assuming that's in Michigan? My backyard half pipe from the 80s (pic back on page 2 of this thread) is long gone. It was in northern Ohio, fully exposed to the elements, and we had a hard time keeping it from rotting. sad

Yeah, that's in Michigan.  It was really cool that my parents let us build that.  smile  We had a number of ramps among my group of friends over the years but this is the only one still standing.  The ramps that were outdoors (quarter & wedge) both rotted.

Yours looks like it was a nice ramp too!

Here's a couple of photos of the 8' quarter-pipe and kick-turn ramp:

http://i1081.photobucket.com/albums/j343/oldschoolharo/null_zps249208ba.jpg

That's probably about the most air I ever got on that ramp too!  big_smile

I bought the quarter from a BMXer who was sponsored by Maximum I believe.  It was an amazingly smooth ramp, considering it was built with the old-style transition design.  I think I got the ramp in ~'85...

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

We made these modular and folding, so we can store them inside the shop.

Would love to find my old Dirt Bike.  It was stolen in Pompano Beach, Florida in about 1996.  It's a '92 with the block graphics on a Green frame.  Pitchforks, Slam bars, GT (DK-style) stem and GT/Profile cranks.  Superlace hubs.  Would really love to put this back in my collection.

Re: RAMPS, Gates, Half pipes, Lets see what you built for BMX

I didn't build this, but when/if I do another backyard ramp setup, it's going to have a roller & spine on one side and a box jump on the other, like this....

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/27540/545a8dbf354f.jpg

Other rad backyard style ramps I did NOT build:

This 90-flat-90 curved wall-ride with dirt banks up to it was pretty killer at the Texas Toast 2012 dirt comp. Definitely had a backyard vibe

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/27540/555a8dbf3547.jpg

The railroad car roll-in and wood roller was a great touch of creativity...

Wow cmc, that last pic is awesome!  Here are a few more I found of my old sketchy stuff.

First quarter pipe using plans from BMX Action (not the best...) - check out those kinks!

When you don't have enough lumber, improvise.  Yes, it was nailed to the tree.

Added some red safety edges and a home made BMX Action logo - much better.

My buddy Abel built this crazy drop-in for the dirt jumps at the Allied Compound.

video of Allied jam last year: http://vimeo.com/59382627

He has been building a ton of stuff at a new freeride/slopestyle mtb spot as well:

Like the cross-over line:

And various platform/ladder drops into dirt landings. Like this one. (Ridden by yours truly) smile

Sorry I didn't see this until today. I wish this forum had a feature that would notify me when someone quotes one of my posts.

Anyway...

No, not Bolivar...that was in a small town a few miles from Sandusky (home of Cedar Point amusement park).

Re: RAMPS, Gates, Half pipes, Lets see what you built for BMX

We had quite a few little quarter pipes and kickers (no pics), then we got the room and the supplies to build our first "half pipe" (I taped together two pics)...

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/27540/715a8dbf97cf.jpg

Then we moved the two quarter pipe half pipe to my backyard and added some flat and rode it year round...

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/27540/725a8dbfaddb.jpg

Then we added four feet to the width so we could do this...

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/27540/735a8dbfadd9.jpg

We needed a new quarter pipe for shows so we got this contraption...

http://uploads.bmxmuseum.com/user-images/27540/745a8dbfadc5.jpg

After that I built a ton more...but I'm looking for pictures.
