Epic find there. Please tell us you don't plan on removing those decals or refinishing the frameset.

I think you should restore it.

Just don't put any Hutch parts on it. The chemical reaction with GT would probably blow it up. tongue

Re: 1979 Gary Turner survivor SCORE

Been looking for one of these for over 30 years. My Gary was stolen in 1980, and the hurt still lingers to this day. I'd love if you have any interest in parting with it at all to please let me know.

Re: 1979 Gary Turner survivor SCORE

OK wow thanks everyone! Here is the story

So I am at a motorcycle shop my friend has on the central coast here in california and I am always asking for old BMX bikes and a guy says "yea I got a Gary Turner and it needs tires and a chain, I was gonna fix it up and let my kid ride it around" So I ask " what do you want for it " He says he is looking for a go cart and it don't even need a motor because he had one already. So we agree on a trade sight unseen. I start looking for a gocart minus the motor and all I find is crap ones and I keep looking. A week or two goes by and he finaly texts me a photo of the bike. OMG! I raced GT BITD and that what got me into collecting recently. I almost shit my paints. It's 10 PM and I need a gocart now??? Craigslist! it is so I find a bad ass go cart and make the call THANK GOD FOR TWEAKERS! So I tell the guy I need it tonight No haggle on price just gotta be tonight and he says OK So now Its 11 PM and I got a gocart in the back of my SUV and I cant sleep like a kid the night before going to Disneyland! I get up and drive a few hours to my friends shop and we pull out the gocart and like I said this thing was BAD ASS 8hp Honda motor, Billet parts and the thing runs like a champ! Then the guy tells me he does not have any money to pay for the difference because we agreed on a cart without a motor and this thing was way more then he expected. I said "well we agreed sight unseen and when you sent me the photo of the bike It was more then I expected so I wanted to bring you something more then you expected. If your good then I'm good." He says "F**K man if your good then Im more then good" we shook hands and he says you still havenet even seen the bike. I said its cool so lets see this thing then. It's a great feeling when you find something of this caliber like some raiders of the ark type shit. 2 days later and I'm still staring at the bike. What a rush! Thank everyone for the compliments and interest in this bike and since I am new to this site I am more then glad to share this with everyone.

Re: 1979 Gary Turner survivor SCORE

I just finished sanding it down and stripping off the stickers! ready for a nice blue spray paint job. Does ultrahive make repo stickers? Just kidding I would not even clean this bike & I am even leaving the lock on the seat! You can always clean up or restore a bike but you can only have original once!

Re: 1979 Gary Turner survivor SCORE

Great Find and cool story,i was at a garage sale a few months ago and i asked if he had any bmx bikes and he said i just missed out on his child hood frame,a Gary Turner with the decals on the down tube with a fork and a neck,he said he sold it for 250.00. I don't know if he was BS'ing me or not,but dang i was close to maybe getting one.

Re: 1979 Gary Turner survivor SCORE

This is the coolest score I have seen yet!! I have been searching for one and thought I had one when  I scored my 83 cruiser. THe guy I got it from said he had one in a storage unit and he describe the decals perfect etc. and had me salivating at the thought of it. I kept at him for a month only to be let down when the storage had been pilfered by his brother and the only bmx frame left was Greg Hill CylCle Pro! I didnt make the 2.5 hour drive back there for that!
