1984 Free Agent Freeflite

This is the PROTOTYPE of the Free Agent Freeflite Freestyle Frame made by VDC for Free Agent. I had purchased this frame & fork directly from Yvonne at Free Agent for $80 back in 1985/86.

This is the very same frame that was in Freestylin' Magazine (it arrived with the DYNO sticker and all but the forks are different but are from Free Agent), it has Campagnolo rear drop-outs and and rounded rear frame standers, unlike the version sold to the general public which is rounded at the front and then came to a cornered edge and went straight in to the chain-stays. Unfortunately, I had sent this frame back to Free Agent back in 85 or 86 and had them re-chrome the frame and weld a rear brake mount so I could use a rear handbrake as I was not big on coaster brake.
The other components are:
•Redline Forklifter Bars
•Profile Lockjaw Freestyle Stem with Pott's Mod - Pott's mod bolt came with the stem from Profile - VERY RARE! (1980s not repop)
•GT Power Series Cranks
•MKS Graphite Pedals
•Araya 7X Rims with GT Race Lace Sealed hubs w/ Hollow Axles
•Kuwahara Snake Seat post
•Peregrine Seat clamp
•IRC Free Style Tires
•ODI Mushroom Grips
•Dia-Compe Nippon Brakes
•1st Generation Odyssey Gyro
•Viscount DYNO Seat w/ narrow front 2 finger grip
There is nothing wrong with the frame, what you see on the frame is residue from dried out glue from grip-tape. I was too lazy to clean it off before I took the photos.

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

Thanks Block. It's my favorite bike of all time. I can't tell you how many times I have been offered a ton of money for this because it's the Prototype. But I won't ever sell it.

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

This is so rad.
Yeah, just a freaking awesome set up.
Good call getting the brake bridge added too. It's a prototype, so it's one of a kind either way. cool

What I should have said, was nothing.

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

I usually don't fav anything but cruisers BUT this is my personal Grail as far as freestyle bikes go. I voted for one at a small show here in San Diego a while back. That Lock Jaw stem I'm sure cost a pretty penny! Vey cool build.

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

Thanks for the compliments guys. And Cruiser Bruiser, the Lockjaw stem didn't cost all that much at the time of purchase because I bought it in the mid 80s when it came out, so it wasn't rare back then. Everything you see, I already had on the bike when I put it away in my parents attic 20+ years ago. I just recently took it out to take the photos and FINALLY get it up on the site.
Thanks again guys.

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

Finally added a few more photos now that we can upload 8 pix. Awesome!
I know it's been a little while since they had changed this to allow for more photos but I was just able to get to it today.

Thank you GAry and the BMXmuseum team for the update. smile

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

I sold my 1984 Freeflite a few years ago (before I thought I'd be having a kid!) but I still have that photo from Freestylin'! I had a Huffy, then a Team Murry (department store models) before then, and finally got tired of breaking frames and parts, so decided to build my own. When I saw that picture, I was smitten. Saved for another year and got them (+bars) and finally got to assemble my bike over winter. It was a tank, but it was perfect for me. Thanks for posting these!

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

Hey there. That's such a bummer that you sold your Freeflite, it was a killer bike that just needed a little work to get it back in shape. I went to that BMX-addicts site that you listed in your post to see your bike but it looks like someone bought the domain for karate instead of BMX. Bummer
Do you happen to have another link to your old bike?
Thanks for the post. smile

Re: 1984 Free Agent Freeflite

I haven't touched this bike since the late 80s (except for a couple years ago when I filled the tires and took these photos), and I was thinking of changing the color scheme. Any suggestions?
