1987 Haro Group 1 RS3

Group 1 survivor

Having unsuccessfully searched for an old school, daily rider for a few years, I finally pulled the trigger on this '87 Group 1 RS3 in Nov 2011. Not the highest-spec Haro, but I love the combination of classic Haro colours with the lines and geometry of a racing rather than freestyle frame - sorry twin top tube guys! I sourced the bike from the States (thanks Garrick aka Old-Skull) and had it shipped over to Japan, where these are impossible to find for reasonable money, if at all. The paintwork and stickers are original and some of the parts (chainwheel, pedals, stem, grips, seatpost clamp and tyres) have been replaced, but I like the overall look and it rides well. I may try to source some of the missing, original parts and would also like a padset and numberplate, but for the moment I'm just enjoying putting some miles on it!! Thanks also to Inoue-san at Screamin' Wheels, Tokyo, for helping me get back on the road!
[BOUGHT Nov 2011, BUILT Dec 2011, SOLD Oct 2014]

Re: 1987 Haro Group 1 RS3

I had this same bike as a kid but in red. I still have it, but it didn't survive well so I had to custom restore it. Yours looks awesome as a survivor...I often wonder what might have happened if mine hadn't taken so much abuse over the years!

Awesome find and probably not too many at all in Japan .

There are no free rides here. Everyone puts in work, whether cliqued up or not. I'm not talking about helping us with our computer skills. You'll get your f*cking hands dirty like the rest of us.

Re: 1987 Haro Group 1 RS3

After nearly 3 years of ownership, the Haro has now been sold. I bought it as a rider but my grail bike, an '83 Laserlite, has taken over those duties so the Haro became surplus to requirements. Gone but not forgotten, it's now cruising the mean streets of Tokyo! Sayonara!!

Thanks man! It's in a different league to your high end bikes, but I love the colour scheme and lines of these framesets and one day I'd like to replace this one with an RS1 or RS2. :)
