1983 Schwinn Thrasher

JUNKYARD Schwinn Thrasher

1983 Schwinn Thrasher.  A friend who collects 1960's and 1970's Schwinns called me with a Schwinn BMX frame he pulled out of the scrap pile.  Nothing like a free frame/forks/bars to get a new project rolling, even on a budget!

Stripped the frame / forks and had them powdered in Royal Blue.  Then powdered the forks in white.  I had a pair of the Schwinn tube decals reproduced in White.  Then bought a Schwinn Quality decal for the seat tube off of Ebay.  The head tube badge was missing so I found an original badge from a Schwinn Cotton Picker.

I decided it had to have WHITE Skyway Tuff II's.  I used Kenda Contact reproduction street performer tires.

AME TRI grips
Generic chrome stem
Shimano wire clamps
Team Pro checkered V-Pad
Sugino crank and chain wheel
Polished Suntour seat post clamp
Aero white seat
Aftermarket Lee Chi front and rear brakes
Aftermarket reproduction white pedals (WAY TO CHEAP PEDALS!)

Fun to pull off a budget build straight out of the scrap yard!

Re: 1983 Schwinn Thrasher

yup  , very nice build . the royal blue really pops on it , especially with the white.  might wanna go back and edit your description though , after it says you powdered the frame/fork royal blue , it says you powdered the fork white, after re reading it 3 times , im assuming you meant the bars. either way , congrats on the build . i dont see to many scramblers i would sport but id ride the hell out of this :D

Re: 1983 Schwinn Thrasher

Thanks for putting this on the museum I have a f/f and have been wondering what it is.  Hope it looks like close to as good as yours.  Do you have anymore frame decals I may be interested in getting a set.
