What I always wanted when I was young...
I always wanted a BMX with a flashy set of tuff wheels when I was young but, alas, my Hotfoot had to suffice. I have just finished building this Mongoose old school classic and could have used it 25 years ago. - Frame is approx. 1980 mottomag (serial number been removed - darn it !!) - New decals, not motomag just standard - Skyway 1 tuff wheels recently sandblasted back to original canary yellow - era correcy knobbly tyres for the dirt - Red annodized chain stays not era correct but looks cool - Sugino chainwheel and cranks - KKT pedals - Tange bottom bracket set - Leadtec Redline imitation V - handlebars - Yellow Cobra style handlebar grips - Early Madison gooseneck (Aussie BMX Mongoose copy) - Tange forks - Red anodized fluted seatpole, era correct seatpole clamp and Kashimax style seat It rides great and turns heads. A little late but I finally have ny ultimate BMX !

And i thought i was the only one that started out on a hotfoot! Alas i also had Mongoose envy when i was a kid, i could afford a cromo replica frame though that i put all my foot bits on it, not the same though.
Like you though i also have a nice goose in the garage now!
Love the tuffs too!

Thanks for the comments. I am very happy with it and I have made a decision to ride it and enjoy it and not just have it as a show piece. It's surprising how many people - both kids and adults - come up to me in the park and want to talk about bikes and share stories Old school rules !!

Yes, before the restoration the tuffs were showing plenty of age with fading and discolouration. The guy I bought them off said he had them sandblasted (or was it bead blasted ?) to restore their colour. I guess the equivilant would be to spend a week with wet and dry sandpaper rubbing them back. I've read on some of the forums what a bugger of a job that is !! I'm very happy them.

Hi there, scared of spiders, I"ve just posted a pic of my Malvern star maxi that I found as "Road Kill" I will be putting mine on ebay soon as I'm not really into bmx. My pic will be posted onto this sight as soon as it has been checked! I have one like yours but mine has Tuff wheels. It looks to be "stock" original. NOt sure of the year but has gold Tourney brakes etc, still has the original padding but I was too scared to take it off. Also has japanese parts. I have just spent 2 hours cleaning all the grease and grime off it, so hope someone is interested!

Hello bridgethegap71 - I'm sure someone will buy it. Malvern Stars always sell well and the Maxis and Supermaxis do not turn up as often as you think. I think I'll sell mine one day soon as well. I haven't touched it since I have posted it in the museum. It could be restored but I've got so many projects ahead of it. Good Luck !!

When I first took my restored 'goose out for a spin, I thought people were going to mob me for real - "OMG!!! IT'S A MONGOOSE!!! GET HIM!!!!!" 
but the opposite happened; no one seemed to notice; so I was somewhat relieved and disappointed at the same time. Maybe there aren't as many people where I live (Kansas City) that rode BMX?!?!
Since then, I've ridden my bike everywhere and occasionally, I'll meet someone who had a BMX from that era but most people I meet never even had a BMX - they ask if my 'goose is a folding bike! 
...but that's okay, I'm happy to tell them "It's a 1979 BMX Mongoose Motomag with all original parts!" until their eyes glaze over
