Some people need to get down off of their crosses, use the wood to build a bridge and GET OVER IT!!!!
I don't build bikes. I just assemble them.

Re: 1987 GT Performer
RealFox, thanks for the props. This was my madien voyage into restoring. I was going to go all original but my lack of knowledge and money changed my path. Then I stumbled across a motorcycle built by Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles. The rest, as they say, is history.
You can check out the bike's progression at http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h7/co … Performer/

Re: 1987 GT Performer
Comay, yup, I know who Russell Mitchell is. Gotta love that cocky-Britt, eh? lol. He has a thing for simplicity, but his bikes are not so simple. Odd how every bike-off he is part of here in America..., he never wins. I remember the first time I saw him on Biker Build-Off on Discovery a couple years ago. BTW, you did a great Mitchell-esque GT there.

Re: 1987 GT Performer
Yeah, Fox, I don't know why Russell never won a build-off. And yeah, he his a tad bit on the cocky side. The main reason I like his bikes is because they don't look like all the other bikes out there. His bikes have the old school look with new school technology. The other bikes have the wild paint. All the chrome. Some have very innovative designs and most are very easy on the eyes. But after a while . . . ZZZZZZZZZZZ. BORING! It's like a bunch of sheep if you ask me. Alright, enough about motorbikes.
It's the same way with bicycles. Your bike says a lot about you. Who here has bought a bike "off of the showroom floor" and didn't change a thing? As soon as I got home the kickstand, chain guard and reflectors were gone. Throw on some pegs, upgrade some parts. Maybe even throw on a few stickers. Now it's MY bike. A one-of-a-kind! Isn't that what everyone here is going for?!?!
Thanks swarren.

Re: 1987 GT Performer
Comay, why remove the kick stand? All my bikes heve em, and if they don't, they will. I ain't about to go off anywhere and *lay* my bike on the ground. Of course, there's the old: flip it on it's back idea, but no. I don't wanna tear anything up.
I must admit, Russell does do things different. Remember that tryke he built? Bro, that was too friggen kick @ss. I don't even like trykes, but d@mn, that one's da bomb.

Re: 1987 GT Performer
these pics dont do justice to this bike. i saw it in person, and i am still talking about it. never saw old school, and new school come together so well. awesome job chris
when i see a mongoose at walmart, i try and picture the metal being used to make something more useful, like a frying pan, or maybe some clothes hangers...oh well...its out of my hands.
my bikes are tri-moly. that means i have 3 times more chromo than you..haha

Thanks, lovethegoose.
Here it is with the new Maxxis Miracles. I didn't want to ruin the whitewalls.

Yeah the brake setup is pretty cool. Odyssey Evolver brakes on Hoffman Bikes adapter plates. I've seen other types out there but they looked a little to wimpy. I talked to people that have used the wimpy kind and they had to put hose clamps around the adapter and the fork. Not really a clean look.
As far as valve caps, I prefer my skulls.

Re: 1987 GT Performer
Thanks speed. I just need to find some red rims to lace them to. And once I do, if it makes you feel any better, I'll put on some dice caps.

Re: 1987 GT Performer
Well, the rims I have on it now are new school. I might just use the employee discout to get a new school set of red hoops. I think it'll be cheaper and easier instead of unlacing, getting 'em powdered and relacing. I heard you say how much "fun" you had relacing your HP's. I have zero patience for that. Besides, I think I'll put the black wheels from this 87 on my 88 Performer/Vertigo in the Name The Frame section.
