Re: GT Serial number decoding

Hey i just found this site, its amazing. Just picked up a GT, think its a performer, but havin' trouble decifering the SN since the letters in it don't seem to follow the examples i've seen, so i hope someone can help me out. The frame is shaped similiar to the '98 and above frames in the museum with the arch in the top tube.  It begins with only one letter, not two like i've been seeing on the other posts:  C98H03888. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: GT Serial number decoding

jimmibills, it could be 98 or 99.  please post some pics, and welcome to the site

djd, maybe it's a 1 digit year (9 = 1999?)

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Well that gooseneck didnt come out untill 97 and the frame itself should be 1" from 94/95 not 1 1/8". The sticker would have had both wings and the Mach one looks like 97/98 style lettering.

Re: GT Serial number decoding

hey skinny thanks for the help. No pics of it yet, but i might be able to post the ebay link i won it from, theres a couple of pics on there before it was disassembled for shipping.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi … N.m313.lVI

the pics on there aren't the best but you get the idea. Once its cleaned up and back together i;d like to put it in the museum. Still trying to figure out if its a 98 or a 99

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Jimmy based on that sprocket id say its a 98. You got a good deal on it too.

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Thanks for the help djd. Yeah couldn't pass this deal up. Initially i want to get an '87 pro perf., which is what i bought brand new back in '87 for $375. I was 9 and saved all year for that bike. Worth every penny and brought great memories. Eventually i lost that one in a move, along with interest all together, but recently got bit by the bug again to look for that same bike. But this later model will be a good daily rider and beginning of my collection once it's cleaned up .  Actually going to meet a guy this afternoon who is selling a Haro Fusion on Craigslist for $40! Let the madness begin cool

Re: GT Serial number decoding

DS is a designation for the factory that made the frame/fork.
it might be an 86 but we need to see a pic to be sure.
these were'nt made in the US. DS is a Taiwan designation i believe.

# SIDT05749

anybody?

Looking for: Late 90s-00 GT Interceptor and Dyno VFR (square tube) Backtrail X2, X3, or X4 stock parts. (Big/small block stem*rounded*, small/big block pedals, seat clamp and sprockets) Nothing fancy it's going on a rider.
Send me a PM with the details and lets trade some parts guys! (or cash)

yep, DS s/n on the bottom bracket is foreign made, and the 6 should be 86 which would have huntington decals.

Re: GT Serial number decoding

Those serials dont seem to have the date in them. Thats not a 91 it looks like a 89 and could be either a Mach one or a Interceptor.

i thinking that at first but then i remember i think they went up to 91 with that stlye for just Interceptors.

Huh, we need some 91 Interceptors for reference. I did see  another 91 Interceptor just now and looks like your right Hobbes about the Interceptors sticking with this logo style, good call man! smile
