Goofing Around and Making Threats and Twin Top Tubes

It's been really warm here the past few days and work has been slow. I have been threatening, for a while now, to build my own bike frame and handlebars. Due to costs and the aforementioned shortage of work I do not have the funds to build a jig so I decided to just goof around with an old bike frame and some extra chromoly tubing I had left over from some rollcage work. I am always put out at the cost of twin top tube frames so here is what I've done, on the tailgate of my truck with a grinder and tubing bender. It is only mocked up.

I've got a couple ideas to make it more original but I've got a basketball game to get to. It'll have to wait until tomorrow. Comments welcome.

Re: Goofing Around and Making Threats and Twin Top Tubes

Looks like a fun project!

I get this question often so here it is to save everyone time. I do not have any Mongoose DMC decals left. I was lucky enough to find a small bunch of NOS decal sets in an old bike shop that no longer exists and I have since sold them all. Sorry. I wish you all the best of luck with your DMC builds.

Re: Goofing Around and Making Threats and Twin Top Tubes

Very cool, but I have a question. Why waste chromoly tubing and TIG rod on a low end mild steel bike like that Spaulding? I'd grab a mid school chromoly bike and build something that will last.

Nothing is a waste if you are enjoying what you are doing. Many would argue that it is a waste to spend thousands of dollars on 25 year old kids bikes tongue
