1989 GT Performer

Picked it up for $25 this winter(minus the mags and tires)
I was going to give it to my youngest daughter....but she's still pretty tippy on a 20"-so now my wife is the proud owner.Just needs a chain

Thats what I thought when I first got it(because of the decals)but the serial # is  DS80500573.And from what I have been told by quite a few members that makes it an 88 with 89 decals.
I even ran a post trying to figure out why an 88 would have 89 decals(I know the decals are original to the bike because I got it from the original owner)
I'll try to find the post it's been a long time.
So what do you think Dyno-Mike...did GT eff up?Or is there another solution to this.Any info is appreciated.

Re: 1989 GT Performer

i too have an '89 performer that is in the same situation as yours...the frame is an '88 but its an '89 model

my guess is that gt had some left over frames and just used them as early '89 models

Re: 1989 GT Performer

Thanks for the compliment.
I couldn't let it go.....it's technically my wifes but my daughters cruise this thing everywhere.
Between the whole family this bike probably gets more miles put on than any other bike I have in the museum. big_smile

Re: 1989 GT Performer

Looks like they shipped all the oddball bikes to Wisconsin. Just picked one up in Oshkosh that is an 88 frame with 89 decals. Serial # DS800500773

you'll find that GT did this a lot, much like car companies they started putting out their new models before the actual new year

I can not sit still. I have been tested for A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. and have neither. I don't need coffee, I just need a B.M.X. or surfboard to consistently ride and I'll be happy. smile
